Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2019
I heard there were over 1,000 applicants this year which is way more than last year's. Maybe that's why it's taking so long. Literally every time I hear my email notification go off I have to check it right away. Really hope everyone is doing okay! I've been meditating to relieve some of this anxiety lol.

Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2019
I feel like everyone is feeling the same way. @jessaying, I totally did the same thing. It only left me more nervous and anxious about my application! Everyone is special in their own way and not having the perfect GPA can cause you to feel inadequate. I certainly am not the most qualified person for the nursing program. There are so many people who worked as CNAs, EMTs, medical assistants, etc. I have no experience in the nursing field but I do have the passion to pursue one. It just feels like the right career for me. I did do a lot of volunteering and had leadship positions at my college. My gpa is a 3.7 and I'm really hoping my essay will show who I am and my desire to become a nurse.

Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2019
Hello zj120cn! :) From looking on the SBU nursing website, you can apply for Fall 2017 and still take Chemistry in the spring, as long as it is completed prior to the start of the program. Here's a direct quote from the FAQ section: "Completion of the three required prerequisite sciences is required upon the submission of your application. Completion of all prerequisites (with a minimum grade of C or better) is required prior to the start of the program." Hope that helped!

Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2019
Hey Dani182! Glad I found your post :) I just started my second year at SCCC as a liberal arts major. Almost done with my prereqs, I only have microbiology (currently taking) and lifespan development left. Have you started the application process yet?

CNA Program at Northshore CTI
Thank you for your response! How is the study material? I'm starting classes soon at college and I'm not sure if I can handle 7 weeks of CNA training along with being a full time student...

CNA Program at Northshore CTI
I was interested in taking the CNA course at North Shore CTI as well! I haven't heard that much about this program and I'm kinda getting skeptical. There are no reviews online, no pictures of the building, and when I search the address on google maps it takes me to a a lot of land labeled as the building... Did you find a job after the program? Would you recommend it? thankyou!

How to gain experience in the medical setting before applying to nursing school?
Hi everyone! :) I'm a pre-nursing student and I'm finishing up pre-reqs this upcoming 2016 fall semester. I plan on applying to nursing school by January 2017. I heard that schools look for candidates who have hands-on patient care experience and some knowledge in the medical field. (I guess they want this so the applicants know what they're getting into) This makes me worried because I have no prior nursing experience. That is why I've been researching and scrambling all over the place for advice on what to do. I've thought of becoming a CNA but apparently I'm not eligible to apply if I have more than 30 college credits... My question is: What can I do to gain some experience before applying to a nursing program? Are there any centers out there that provide free training e.g. phlebotomy, nursing assistant, shadowing.. Thank you!

Phlebotomist before nursing school?
Hi Grumble88!, if you don't mind me asking, how did you obtain a position as a phlebotomist without being certified? I'm currently on the hunt for experience in the medical setting in order to gain experience before applying to nursing school and I don't have the time or money to spend on becoming certified! A situation like yours is a dream to me right now! Would love to hear back from you :)
