ADN then BSN?
Hi everyone! i am a pre-nursing student at a 4 year uni located in CA. as all of you may know... 4 year universities are expensive. i am pulling out loans to pay for each semester. i just finished my freshman year and i am realizing that i am going to be in an incredible amount of debt once i finish, which is what everyone tries to avoid. I have been thinking about transferring instead to a CC and get my ADN degree. however, i do have some questions. i know that hospitals do tend to prefer RN's with a BSN degree. I do want specialize in Pediatric Oncology/Hematology. with an ADN, will i still be able to work on at least a pediatric unit as a new grad? my goal to is to get a BSN degree, which will happen. also, do good hospitals like Kaiser offer jobs to RN's with an ADN??? P.S. i live in the los angeles area!!

Thinking about changing major?
Hello everyone. my name is Alma and i just finished my first year of college. As i have mentioned in my latest post, i got a D in anatomy and physiology 1. this failure has allowed me to re evaluate my career choice. Background: during my junior year of high school, i decided that i wanted to become a nurse. I did so much research on it and the more i researched, the more i fell in love with th career. during the beginning of my second semester of college, i found a career called Clinical Laboratory Scientist. I went back and forth from that to nursing but decided to stay in nursing. However, now i am re evaluating the decision again. this is because of how much i loved being in the lab for my chemistry class. yes, chemistry was hard but i remember really enjoying my time there. i loved writing lab reports when everybody hated it (even the formal lab reports). i loved solving the problems that came along with the lab reports... However, i feel like i may be biased to changing my major because of this fail. CLS still requires mt to take A&P 1 again, which i will retake but i dont know what to do... I have been in love with nursing for such a long time. Pediatric oncology was the specialty i wanted to get into since i like to learn about cancer biology. I am torn between two majors... Does anyone have any advice? Thanks guys!!!

Failed A&P 1... idk what to do
I just finished my first year of college and i have never felt so unmotivated with my life and career choice. This is because about a week ago i discovered that i failed anatomy and physiology 1. When i looked at the screen and saw it said "D"...i burst out in tears. I felt so angry and sad. I told myself i shouldnt give up so i went to see my advisor. The first thing she told me was "you should start looking at alternative majors". the moment she said that i just wanted to cry and i did after i left the office. Nothing interests me like nursing does. I have wanted to become a registered nurse since my junior year of high school. But after she said that, it broke my heart. she said i need at least a 3.7 GPA. Now that i failed this course, i have to wait another year to apply, but i feel extremely unmotivated. nursing has been my dream. i worked hard to go to a 4 year university during high school and now i feel like my dream is all gone... What do you all think?? Have any of you had this experience? I appreicate any response

Is there a specific forum for asking for advice other than "Ask Nurse Beth"?
"Ask Nurse Beth" is under 'Career". I thought that it would be only for her but i see that she posts her responses. Thankfully i found a nursing forum where i can ask for Nursing Career Advice, which is the name of the forum, so i posted my problem and question there. Thank you anyways

Doubts on becoming an RN because i don't think i am smart enough..
I need some advice and motivation from you all.. I'm a rising senior who wants to become a Registered Nurse with a BSN. I'm applying to Cal State Universities in the Fall. I have a UC/CSU GPA of 3.72, my SAT score is a 910, and my ACT score is a 16. I went on College Confidential to ask what my chances are of being accepted as a nursing major and I keep hearing that my stats are too low. I'm starting to doubt myself and if I should become a Nurse at all. I dream of being a Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse. I've always been interested in how cancer works and the different types of cancers. When I learn about it, it just sticks to me and I love to learn about it; Cancer fascinates me. I have never volunteered in a hospital (but I want to after I graduate high school since I'm so busy with school right now), worked with cancer patients or have even met a pediatric cancer patient but somehow, that's what I want to do. I know it's an overwhelming and emotionally draining job and I may not understand how much it really is, but I am very interested in it. I want to not only help children by administering chemotherapy and all these other medicines they need, but I want to make a difference in their lives and in their family's lives, even if it means to just make them smile or laugh. I've always had a passion for children. When I was little, I wanted to be an elementary school teacher (preferably kindergarten) or a middle school English teacher, then I wanted to be a doctor but I realized that it is the nurses who spend the most time with the patients, so that is when I decided that being a Pediatric Hem/Onc Nurse can be for me. I just don't know if I'm smart enough to do it... What also contributes to me doubting myself is that i don't have great communication skills. Im a very nervous person and I'm shy and nurses need to be great communicators to be Great Nurses. But i still would like to be a Nurse... What advice would you give me?

I would like to know if there is a forum where you ask for advice, other than "Ask Nurse Beth", where i every single one of you can read it. This would be very helpful, thank you!!

Difference between Ped Onc Nurse and Ped Hem Nurse
What is the difference between a Pediatric Hematolgy Nurse and a Pediatric Oncology Nurse? Or are they the same thing? What is the job description of each one and what does it take to care for pediatric cancer patients??? also, how do you become those types of nurses???

Difference between Generic/ Basic BSN and Entry Level Baccalaureate
By "generic/basin BSN", i guess it means going the traditional road, as in the 2+2 program. As in, for the first 2 years, going in to college as a Pre nursing major or any other science major and taking the pre reqs needed to go to nursing school, and then applying to nursing school during your sophomore year and finishing up those last 2 years in nursing school. And Entry Level Baccalaureate can mean the same thing... or something like having no experience at all, like no RN-to-BSN or ABSN programs... what do you think???

CSU nursing pre reqs and BSN Program
Hi, im a senior in high school and applying for college in the fall. Im a bit confused on Universities that have BSN programs... I read from a post on College Confidential.com that its best to go to a University that has a BSN program than going to a college/university that doesn't have a BSN program because you would EITHER need to get your Bachelors degree in another science instead of nursing, which is longer and more expensive i believe, OR transfer to a University that has a BSN program when you're done with your nursing pre-reqs, which can get complicated. I want to know, is this true? Whats the easiest path to take in order to become an RN?? And, lets say i get accepted to Cal State LA as a pre-nursing/undeclared/or other science major and take all of my required nursing pre reqs for that school. Will they be the same if, lets say, i go to Cal State Long Beach's Nursing School to get my BSN, or Cal State Northridge, Cal State Fullerton (these schools are just examples)???? to further emphasize on my question, will the nursing pre reqs i took at Cal State LA be accepted at any other Cal State University that has a BSN program, which would allow me to go to those other Nursing schools/BSN Programs??? I would really appreciate the help, Thank You!!! AddThis Sharing Buttons

Can I take Nursing pre reqs under any major???
So what you're saying is that if you want to go to Nursing school and take nursing pre reqs, it's better to take those pre req courses at a school that has a BSN program (Nursing School)?
