  1. Well the reason I want to get the medical coding certificate is because I don't plan on being a nurse for a few years till my son is older, he's only one now. so in the meantime I'd like a job a little more stable since I know nursing are long hour days etc. Plus I'd having the coding certificate as back up if for some reason nursing doesn't work out for me. As for the cna, I don't want to be a cna it is just something that is included in the program since your learning most of the material for CNAs your able to sit for the exam to get that certification. It's an added bonus.
  2. Yea I figured í ½í¸•, and I will thanks!
  3. Hello everyone There is a foundations of health professions associates degree at the school I will be going to that allows you to take the basic classes such as biology, a&p, English, algebra, nutrition, medical terminology etc. While also being able to sit for CNA exam AND as well as get your certificate in medical coding/billing, medical assisting, or direct care worker. All in one degree. It says there classes are co-requisites for ADN or LPN programs. I feel like it might be too good too be true and I haven't seen alot of forums or websites saying anything about it. Is this common or is this something that only a few schools do? And do you think this would give me a better advantage at getting a job then I would with just a certification? thanks in advance for your input! 😁
  4. Wow that's horrible I could get payed more somewhere else with less education. And well I wouldn't be going to nursing school until a year or so after the coding program. But I'm not so sure about the coding idea now. I was also kind of interested in EMT/ paramedics any advice or thoughts?
  5. No lol I wouldn't be able to do all of it at once I could volunteer sometimes versus everyday and as for the CNA program the only issue is the only program for it near me is like a 8 hours a day 5 days a week and so I'm not able to do that since I'll be going to school plus that would require daycare and daycare costs money so I'm opting for medical coding /billing , so as for the CNA course that's a big "maybe" but probably not.
  6. I'm a little confused by your post maybe I read it wrong, my original post was that I am going for medical coding and billing to have a back up while I go back to school for nursing, but I was curious to see if my medical coding and billing certification would look good on my nursing school application. Not if it would help me get a job as an RN cause I have the whole time I'm in nursing school to keep volunteering at hospitals and maybe down the line do a CNA program. I can balance work and school as well as taking care of my child but not everyone has help handy to make everything go as smoothly as they would like.
  7. Wow I would've loved that but that's not available around me. And great! I'm happy to hear that, I was starting to get discouraged lol. This program is 2 semesters and a summer internship so hope all goes well! í ½í¹Œ
  8. Thanks I'm still trying to get a hang on this forum. I was referring to ways that would increase my chances of getting a job as a coder but it seems that going for coding isn't such a good idea?
  9. Well the community college I'm going to offers an internship included with the course, so do you think that would give me a better shot at landing a coding job? And I'm going to be volunteering at a hospital is there any specific field such as clerical work that would help me or should I stick with shadowing an RN/stocking supplies etc?
  10. Thats true, I just hope that it will help me somehoew when I go into nursing whether it's getting a job as a nurse or nursing school cause I know that some schools recommend working in the medical field or at least knowing medical terminology which I will be learning.
  11. Well at least it'll help boost my resume then lol I eventually plan on being a nurse in a hospital though but I guess we'll see how things pan out thanks!
  12. Well I originally was going to but I see the medical codingjobs pays better than the CNA jobs plus the opportunity to work from home for when I want to go to nursing school
  13. Hi I've done a lot of research on the nursing field and I'm eager to start learning! But as a new mom I needed something a little quicker in the meantime to start generating income. So the plan is to go for medical coding and billing and then purse my bachelor's in nursing as I work as a coder. My question is, does having a medical coding and billing certification give me an upper hand or a better chance at getting into nursing school? Thanks for your input 😄
