  1. I worked on the medical floor for a couple of years first and was mandated to float to surgical, mental health, ambulatory surgery during that time. It gave me a good background for the cancer center and I have come to my job with knowledge the cancer center RN's do not have about a few things and was able to contribute to pt care in that way. I would suggest all nurses start off on a medical/surgical floor first, at least for a year or so. Good luck and God Bless!
  2. After being an RN only a short time (less than 2 years - medical floor) I am taking a job in outpatient medical oncology. I am very excited and of course want to be the best oncology nurse I can be. What advice do you experienced oncology nurses have for me that will help me make this transition and give the best patient care possible. Thanks - I appreciate all your advice.
  3. Kudra: Can you tell me if the bad reaction would be quick, like a code? Could it be slow, like a shock reaction?
  4. What would you expect to see if Vitamin K reaction was going to happen? Only a quick cardiac arrest? That is what my friend saw. Are declines ever slower such as shocky symptoms? And I do work on the medical floor, not ICU, and have seen/given IV Vit K several times in the last 1 1/2 years, despite asking md's for a different route.
  5. Occasionally we are asked to give VIt K IVP or as a secondary in an infusion. One of our nurses had a pt code after but was brought back. Any of you have experience with problems with VIT K IV? Should be refuse to push/hang it? I swear, all the things we have to do in a day, then worry about keeping our licenses intact also!
