  1. Leslyi, I don't know what salary a CNA earns in your area; but I can share that an increasing number of nursing schools either require a CNA or offer extra credit in the highly competitive application process. Therefore, even if the pay is not optimal in your area, becoming a certified nursing assistant may also help you with your long term goals.
  2. Dalton State College in Northwest Georgia welcomes students of diverse backgrounds, and has been repeatedly recognized among the nation's most affordable schools for students earning bachelor degrees. Currently, DACA graduates from Georgia schools of nursing often seek licensing in other states, due to residency requirements for licensing in Georgia. However, an increasing number of boards of nursing are issuing licenses to DACA recipients who have an un-expired Employment Authorization Document. Among these states are New York, and California. A DACA recipient should visit the website for the board of nursing in the state he/she wishes to become an RN. By downloading the applications for initial license and license by endorsement, one can find the documentation requirements for that state. I hope this helps.
  3. The US Department of Justice has published a document especially for helping DACA recipients understand their rights. It is titled, "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Recipients:Learn About Your Right to Work!" and authored by the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-related Unfair Employment Practices. You can access this information and similar documents online; but the flyer also includes a hotline for the Office of Special Counsel where questions or concerns can be discussed anonymously.
