  1. I wish we had someone like that to help with our basic skills too. Thank you for responding to my post. I already plan on talking to the CNA's that i know at my job. I have also planned on talking to my boss when i see her about working with them for a few days if possible. If not, ill try to help out during my down time.
  2. I'm on very friendly terms with the CNA's or at least i'm trying to be. I'll try that as well. thank you.
  3. I'm still in training so i'l ask my boss to see if it's ok to do that every once in a while. I'll also watch videos and ask the aides in the facility to show me how to do some things while letting me do it on my own so i can learn. I'll start to look up videos on youtube also. I feel like my school did me a huge disservice by not having me use most of the skills i learned in class.
  4. i have never worked as an stna or in home health and my clinical location for basic skills didn't really let us do much. What do you recommend that i do in order to get the basic skills/practice i need (like transferring, bathing etc) to do my job the right way?
  5. @Leonardsmom Good luck to you too :)
  6. Are there nurses who work in jobs that aren't as demanding and then work at long term care and forget all the skills?
  7. It shouldn't. All the places i've ever applied for ask me to mention any background not including a minor traffic violation, the accident was very minor and i got a ticket basically for temp permit violation and not watching where i was going. I didn't have car insurance at the time though and that's where all my problems come from. The lady i hit sued me and i didn't go to court so they suspended my license indefinitely. I need to get an sr22 and pay a $150 reinstatement fee to get my permit now. For years though while i was going to school, i wasn't working though and i got my current job to help pay the money i owed to the school to get my diploma and to pay for the nclex so i didn't make it a priority but now that i passed, i'm making it more of a priority then returning to school because if i didn't have really good friends who were willing to help me with my clinicals ( especially the ones that were hours away) i never would've graduated and i don't want to find myself in that situation again.
  8. I like that idea. I will most definitely try this. Thank you. Any advice on how to tell my resume is good?
  9. I won't go into details but when i was much younger, i put myself in somewhat of a bad situation and it made it a little more tedious and costly to drive which is why i put it off for so long but i have a plan.
  10. I live in Ohio. In not sure if that makes a difference
  11. Passing the nclex was only half of the battle. I've been job hunting for 2 weeks and i have had ZERO success. Idk if it's cuz of my resume or if it's because i have no experience (probably both) but i went to school for this and i'm willing to do what's necessary to become a really good nurse. It doesn't help that i don't drive because it's limiting my job opportunities. What do you recommend i do to finally get a job?
  12. Thank you for responding to my post. I'm gonna work on my resume and then i'll start applying for jobs asap.
  13. I took the nclex-pn late last month and i found that i passed early this month. Of course I was happy but i was also very in denial about it. I felt like i didn't prepare enough to take the test and i don't feel like i deserved to pass. I'm afraid to look for a job because i don't feel like i know enough to do the job well and i'm afraid that i may hurt someone. What do i need to do to become a really good nurse and what kind of jobs are good for new nurses like me so i can be reliable. Ever since i found out i passed a few days ago, I started looking through articles on this site for information and looking for books about nursing and reading about things other nurses have experienced and I've been going through my old textbooks just to mentally prepare myself but i don't know if i'm doing enough.
