Hello! I'm a new graduate RN from NYC looking for a job in NY or central/north jersey and I just passed my NCLEX mid August. I have 2 years experience working 1-1 with a boy with severe cerebral palsy and 3 summers as an extern for NewYork Presbyterian. (I'm still waiting for an HR rep at my hospital that I know is going to find me a job. It's just that the commute is KILLER and I'm hoping for a different hospital) I am not getting any calls back on the tons of applications I've sent out. I'm not saying my experience makes me the best new grad out there, but I was hoping it would at least get me an interview or a phone interview. I know so many students I graduated with working for the best hospitals that didn't do much to have a good resume. I'm wondering what I could be doing to better my chances. I have a few questions if anyone can give me some advice and answer these specifically. 1. Is it okay to ignore "Relevant Experience 1-2 years of RN experience in Med Surg/ *insert speciality unit* and apply anyway? 2. Thoughts on messaging recruiters on LinkedIn? 3. How long does it take to get a NJ license once you have your NY license? 4. Are cover letters absolutely necessary, how personal to the hospital and specific position should they be? 5. ANY advice for a new grad nurse. I'm looking to work at Morristown, RWJ, Children's Specialized, NYP lower manhattan, Staten Island University, Hackensack, or NYU. Am I missing any great ones? Thank you anyone and everyone that can help.
