Hi, I'm a bachelors-prepared BSN nurse that recently was accepted into the University of Washington's AGPC-NP program. Needless to say, I'm super excited about this opportunity but I am worried about cost and profitability for this career move for me and my family. I already have a sizeable student debt from my undergraduate degree, and so this is something I need to make certain of. Currently, the UW's program is approximately $742/credit, which closely amounts to $90,000 for the entire program. I never really accept anything without deep scrutiny, and so when I'm looking for jobs online for NPs, it seems to really be considering FNPs over AGPC-NPs. I'm looking for anyone who has a job as an AGPC-NP in the Seattle, WA area... I'd like to know primarily how hard it was to find a job, but would appreciate additional information such as approximate salary, what type of setting you are working in, and the hours. I'm really worried about putting myself in the pigeon hole specialty of gerontology (even though its what I LOVE TO DO) if I can't get a job that pays for the education itself. Ultimately, I may decide to forego the AGPC-NP this year, and reapply next year for the FNP program if it guarantees me a job in that track. However, I would hate to give up both my love and my acceptance into the program. Sorry for the long post... I'd love to lah-dee-dah it, but with wife and kids to support, I need as much information as I can get. Thanks!
