  1. I work for a very large hospital organization where I started less than 6 months ago. I work in the OR where there are currently 14 nurses on orientation. I am truly concerned with patient safety as well as nurse safety. Almost daily nurses on orientation are being pulled to run their own rooms. There are brand new nurses barely weeks into their first job and they are being placed by themselves. We have tried to emphasize to our managers how uncomfortable we are, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. I'm wondering if we should be calling our compliance line to report patient safety concerns or if this is normal.
  2. Apply!!! With my first nursing job my managers never knew I had a misdemeanor. Only HR knew. As long as your misdemeanor wasn't something violent and they facility doesn't have a policy against the type of conviction then you should be just fine!! If anyone asks you about it, just be up front and honest. If you try to hide it then it doesn't look so good. I got a DUI 5 years ago. When anyone asks me about I am honest. I'm not proud of it, but I have learned from my mistakes and will never make that same mistake again.
  3. The nursing school I went to did not drug test us, ever. I have never heard of Advantage Students and none of the facilities here in Kansas use it.
