  1. I saw a nurse who was flushing a PICC line pull 5-10 cc blood out of PICC line, detach the syringe with blood in it and then proceed to flush the PICC line with 10 cc saline and then heparin. She said she pulled the blood out of syringe because she didn't want to keep the blood that had heparin in it to be in patient. This to me was a total waste of 5-10 cc of patients blood which she just threw away and made no sense. Isn't this bad and poor technique, very unnecessary??? Please let me know. Thank you.
