  1. We are given these problems to do over break and she has not gone over them with us ): So are you saying for problems 1-4, the total volume infused would be the the solution plus the dosage volume? For example, #1 would be 150ml+3.2ml=153.2ml so 153.2ml/60 min x 15 gtt/ml=38.3 gtt/min=38 gtt/min.
  2. Please help! I am having a hard time figuring out how to get the volume of infusion (mL) for these problems. What confuses me more is when the instruction says to dilute in _ mL. What are we supposed to be diluting the medication in as in what solution? 1. Give amikacin 800 mg IVPB, now Available: Amikacin 500 mg/2 ml Set and solution: D5W 150 ml minibag and a drop factor of 15 gtt/ml set Instructions: Infuse over 60 min 150 ml/60 min x 15 gtt/ml=37.5 gtt/ml=38 gtt/ml (Why is it 150 mL?) 2. Give nafcillin 250 mg IVPB q4h Available: Nafcillin 500 mg and 1.8 ml diluent to yield 2 ml Set and solution: Buretrol with a 60 gtt/ml drop factor and NS (normal saline) 500 ml Instructions: Dilute in 50 ml and infuse over 30 min 50 ml/30 min x 60 gtt/ml=100 gtt/min (Why 50 mL? What about the 500 mL of NS? What is Buterol doing in this problem and is NS dropping at a rate of 60 gtt/ml too? The set and solution part just confuses me here.) 3. Give tobramycin (Nebcin) 60 mg IVPB q6h Available: tobramycin (Nebcin) 80 mg/2 ml Set and solution: 50 ml bag D5W and a set with a 15 gtt/ml drop factor Instructions: Dilute with 50 ml and infuse over 30 min 50 ml/30 min x 15 gtt/ml=25 gtt/min (Why 50 ml? Confused here cause there is a 50 ml bag of D5W and it says to dilute with 50 ml.) 4. Give cephradine 1 g IVPB q6h Available: Cephradine 500 mg, add 4.5 ml diluent to each vial to yield 5 ml/vial Set and solution: 50 ml bag of D5W and a set with a 15 gtt/ml drop factor Instructions: Infuse over 30 min 60 ml/30 min x 15 gtt/ml=30 gtt/min (Why 60 ml? Why is this problem adding the 10 ml of one drug dosage onto the 50 ml to get 60ml? Why didn't we add the drug dosage onto the _mL for the other problems?)
  3. For the written part, there were a variety of questions. I studied for that part by doing a lot of practice questions which I found online.
  4. Well..I actually did not pass my skills portion because I was more than 8 mmHg off for the blood pressure. After taking my partner's BP, I asked her what her usual blood pressure was because I got a pretty high BP for her, 140/80 for the first try and 138/88 for the second try. She told me her normal BP is 110/80 which completely scared me because I was way off. I actually lowered the diastolic and systolic blood pressure by 2 mmHg for the second try because I was afraid that I heard wrong and because it was still abnormally high. The RN got 148/98 for the two tries, but I swear I heard her blood pressure even after 98. She said it was only peripheral sounds, but I am pretty sure it wasn't because the sounds were all consistent. I should not have changed the second reading to 138/88 and kept it at 140/90 because I would have been within range. I know that people's blood pressure go up when they are nervous, but how could it possibly go up about 40 mmHg? I hate how we are judged based on another another RN's findings because they are human and they also prone to errors..
  5. Thank you for the help! Will be taking my test tomorrow and I hope I pass!
  6. I'm just nervous that I will forget some supplies and will have to keep going back for a certain skill like grabbing more gloves or washcloths. Thanks for the help! Congrats on passing :)
  7. Yeah I've been practicing on some people here and there, but it's just difficult to work with inanimate supplies/objects. I've been watching the Red Cross videos from Sacramento and yes, I also received a handbook that includes the list of skills and their steps. Just wondering, through which organization did you take the test?
  8. Thank you for your help! I haven't gotten the chance to actually perform the skills because I do not have the supplies, but I've been watching videos and practicing the steps in my head. I really hope that will suffice and that I will pass!
  9. Are we allowed to see how the equipment works beforehand? I've never used a wheelchair before and I do not know how to operate it.
  10. I am taking my CNA test through Red Cross in Southern California in about 2 days. Any tips would be helpful! Are we allowed to familiarize ourselves with the equipments and supplies before we begin the test? I am actually challenging the exam so I have not worked with the actual equipments before or in quite awhile. Also, do we actually have to figure out which supplies we need to gather for each skills or are they laid out separately for each of the skills?
  11. I did not do CNA training. I am trying to challenge the exam because I took Fundamentals of Nursing during my 1st semester of nursing school. I'm pretty sure you can find a lot of CNA training around your area. I know Red Cross and Goodwill offers training so you could look into that. I think you can also find other locations through the California Department of Public Health site. I am not sure, but I think you just need a high school diploma to start the training.
  12. I am worried because I expected them to ask me more questions and because they did not ask for my resume so they do not know the skills and experience I have.
  13. I had an interview today and it basically lasted for less than 15 minutes. I was only asked why I wanted to be a CNA and if I had any questions. I was told the qualities the administrator wanted out of a CNA at his facility and was told how he liked that I was responsible and honest. Also, they did not ask for my resume and all I did was fill out an application with the basic information of all job applications. I had to fill out a form to get my background checked and for a drug test. I am confused though, should I be worried?
