  1. Has anyone heard anything about the waitlist? I decided last week to reapply for Spring 2017. Also looking into NIC to get ADN....we will see!
  2. Hi there, I have been looking into several nursing programs that require their students are CNA's/NAC's prior to admission. I am a Certified Medical Assistant. Does anyone know if these schools would accept this experience/certification? My understanding is that CMA's have a larger scope of practice than CNA's but still...it's not technically meeting the requirement. I have tried to contact the advisor at one school I am interested in but haven't heard back yet. If anyone has any insight or experience with this it'd be greatly appreciated!
  3. Thank you all for your input. It sounds like it's definitely region dependent. I do have a BS in Biology (Pre med track) so I do often wonder if that would make a difference. I didn't realize that the online BSN was a cheaper option so thank you for opening my eyes to that! I will try to contact local hospitals/look at jobs postings to help me make my decision. I am currently working as a CMA for the largest healthcare provider in our area (Providence in Spokane,WA) so I hope that will help me get an "in" into the hospital and hopefully into a pediatric department.
  4. For the short time I've been a pre-nursing a student, I've always heard it is best to get your BSN. People have made it seem that hospitals with good reputations won't hire RN's that don't have their BSN's anymore... I don't want to believe this is true because I know MANY amazing nurses without their BSN and I think that'd be crazy to not hire them. So my husband is about to graduate PT school and we may have to move out of the area for his work. Some of the areas we are looking at do not have BSN programs for me to apply to, only RN programs. In your opinion, should I go through the RN programs anyways? Is what I am hearing true? I want to be a PICU or NICU nurse. Can I get those jobs as a new RN with no BSN? Will I get paid much less than my BSN counterparts? Thank you for your advice/opinions in advance!
  5. Will they tell you where you are on the waitlist? They won't tell me.
  6. Just talked to the school again. She said they "aren't seeing a lot of action" for the waitlist this year. She said I should plan on applying for spring term again but that they are still waiting on hearing back from a "few" more students that haven't confirmed their admission yet so to keep my fingers crossed....
  7. Glad to hear we are in the same spot! The school advised that I not worry about applying for the next round until the end of June! They also told me that we could get called up to the first day of school! Please let me know when you hear from them and I will do the same! :) what did they tell you about the waitlist?
  8. Does anyone know if they've started moving people off the waitlist?
  9. My husband is just now graduating PT school in Spokane so we thought it best for us to stay here for job opportunities. If I don't get in this rotation though I will definitely consider other programs!
  10. I took higher level classes because I was originally a pre med/PA student. Completed my BS in Biomedical Science before I realized I wanted to do nursing instead. I do think that GPA is very important to this school. I'm just looking for other options to make my application better than retaking classes. I know I could have interviewed better so I will definitely work on that if I don't get in off of the waitlist. I do have a lot of extra curricular activities in my past but nothing from the past 2 years. Maybe I need to get some more recent volunteer work in.
  11. Hi there, I applied for the WSU BSN program and was waitlisted. I am hopeful that I will get accepted, but want to strengthen my application in the time that I am waiting so that I am prepared to apply again if I need to. I already have my BS in Biomedical Science. I currently work as a CMA for an orthopedic trauma surgeon. My pre req GPA was a 3.87 (and I took higher level classes than most do for pre-reqs), TEAS test score was in the 95th percentile for the program, and I used to teach and tutor pre nursing students. I feel that overall I am a decently well rounded candidate....I am wondering if anyone sees any large gaps that I can fill to make my application stronger for the next go around! Thanks!
  12. I was waitlisted :/ anyone else? Has anyone called the school to see how soon they will be pulling people off of it (hopefully)?
  13. I guess I could add that I already have my BS in Biomedical Science...I previously thought that I wanted to be a PA. Then realized I wanted to be at the patient's bedside at all times in order to advocate and support them...among other things. I currently work as a CMA for an orthopedic trauma surgeon. My pre req GPA was a 3.87 (and I took higher level classes than most do for pre-reqs), TEAS test score was in the 95th percentile for the program, and I used to teach the nursing microbiology lab that all of the EWU pre-nursing students have to take. I think I messed up by submitting my application only a few days before the due date. It resulted in me being one of the last interviews and I could tell my interviewers were exhausted (and I was SUPER nervous and know I could have done better than I did).
  14. Hi there, Found out I was waitlisted for WSU Fall 2016 BSN program. A little disappointed but still hopeful that there is still a chance I will get in. I've been reading past posts and I was just wondering if anyone could talk about their experience of being on the waitlist (and hopefully being accepted!). Should I be expecting a call any day now or do they wait until after all acceptances have returned (May 1st is the date this year)? Do you feel like nursing school was harder for you than other students? Any comments or advice would be appreciated! Thanks! :)
  15. Congrats! Can't wait to get home and check the mail!
