@bgriffin32, That is correct and had I not passed my next 3 I would have appealed. But honestly, I knew that arguing with them does no good at all. (at least at my site). I did argue my care plan choice but to no avail. I guess I just figured it was my fault for not being assertive and hunting my CE down and asking her. @kaylynn1987, I have posted my experience on this topic in previous page, is there something else you would like to know? If so, my email is [email protected]

Help with Cpne
I used the study guide, flash cards and audio CD. I bought the supply kit, it comes with a book to show you how they want the labs done step by step. I used one month subscription to Robs CPNE and basically all I watched his videos but focused on learning the neumonics and careplans. I submitted careplans through the message center and had them critiqued. I passed on my first attempt. Please look under the topic CPNE Alice Tx that I started. I have posted my experience and some suggestions. Just a suggestion.

@leegirl. My letter and response from excelsior was exactly the same as Bgriffin32. My advice to anyone taking the CPNE. KNOW YOUR CAREPLANS INSIDE AND OUT! This is what most people are failing on. 5 of us tested in Alice and all 5 failed the first patient because of careplans and 2 went home because of them. It's not enough to know how to write them but you have to be able to pick one with very little information. On my first patient, I did not get much of a report from CE and I did not get access to the medical record in the computer. If this happens....ask, ask, ask questions. This is your CPNE and you should not stop asking questions until you are satisfied and confident that you can easily pick out a nursing diagnosis based on this little information.

@bgriffin32, Once I had the letter sent from my employer it only took a couple of days for them to offer me a date. Good luck!

Update. I passed my CPNE this pat weekend in Alice Texas. It was stressful. My advice, know your care plans inside and out. This is what most of us failed on. I failed my first PCS on careplans but was able to come back and pass my next 3. They want to know that you have that critical thinking. They look for this in your careplans. Also, know your critical elements. The CE's that I had were very nice. Especially the last 2 on Sunday. I could feel that they wanted me to pass. Everyone says to control your nerves. This is very true. Had I not went in on Sunday with the relaxed attitude that I had, I truly believe that I would have failed. But I had decided that I had prepared as well as I could have and was ok no matter how it turned out. I hope this helps. Feeling so excited and blessed. Thankful for all of the support from family, friends, and the other students testing.
