1. @meanmaryjean Currently, I am the ONLY caretaker for my mom. She is doing automated PD, so therapy starts at night and ends at the morning (around 6-7am). Will there be family involved in the near future? I am not too sure. I do have eight other siblings, but 3 siblings are diagnosed with schizophrenia so they are out of the question. The rest of them are busy working and live out of state. My oldest sibling lives with my mom and I, but she is not reliable. Her schedule is too sporadic. One of my older siblings told me I will have to put aside school and take care of mom. I will have to be the one to make sacrifices. I try to be understanding, but even my mother's case manager says otherwise.
2. For those attending the open house at Charity for April 7. Here is a link to register for open house Open House - Delgado Community College
3. Hello, I was wondering if there was anyone who is/was family caretaker of an elderly who is on peritoneal dialysis. Were you able to keep up with nursing school? Do you think it is best for someone to not consider nursing school if they are taking care of someone on dialysis? What are some time management tips for nursing students who take care of an elderly on peritoneal dialysis?
4. Hi everyone! The Open House is on April 7,2018 from 9AM- 12PM . =) I am so anxious about the letter omg!!!
5. Hi everyone! I applied for Fall 2018 too! I wish everyone good luck and hopefully we get in! =)
6. Thank you so much @lunanarya. I do appreciate the advice and encouragement from everyone. Originally, I wanted to get my BSN first, but...sometimes things do not go as planned. When you see your mom needs help at home and you miss being at home, I think it is best for me to go home. I feel at ease being able to watch over my mom and helping her out too. I do hope everything works in my favor for the rest of this year.
7. Should I take Intro. to Pharmacology on campus or online? Also, there is a course called, "Nursing School Success". The page of that course says : The course is offered in an online course format. Prospective students get a glimpse of what the life of a nursing student is like. They also are able to develop tools such as time management, test taking skills, stress management techniques and much more. Nursing School Success content includes: Exploring the Options of Nursing and Healthcare Careers Educational Requirements of Healthcare Careers Professional Possibilities Legal Issues Stress Management Critical Thinking Technology in Healthcare Education & Practice Goal Setting & Time Management Communication Dealing With Failure Studying & Test Taking Skills Culture & Caring Pre-Admission Testing Should I take this class too?
8. @Gangsteroids Thank you for your response! Yes, I checked the end date of my summer program and it ends before August 1. I am excited.. =) I understand the information will be condensed, but I know it will be worth it..
9. Hello, I am sophomore this year and I currently interested in applying to a nursing school for my ADN. I will be applying for a bridge program (RN to BSN) right after I finish. I have not been accepted into the nursing school yet because I chose to take care of both anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 before I enter nursing school. Plus, I still have to take the HESI ( April 18). I have my mind set on taking A&P II in Summer 2017 because I have nothing to do this summer and I might as well make use of my time. I am applying for Spring 2018, so the deadline is Aug. 1-15. I should have anything finished by then, but I was wondering...Should I be enrolled in Fall 2017? The reason why I ask this is because the bridge program requires the applicant to take General Biology 1 with lab (non-science or science major). I am already taking that class in the fall, but I was wondering if I should take Intro. to Pharmacology. I will be taking other classes as fillers and to learn something new while waiting for an acceptance/rejection letter. From what I have read, the nursing program requires nursing students to take pharmacology classes. I wondered would it be a good to take an introduction class to pharmacology. Just to get an idea of what I am expecting for the Pharmcology classes in nursing school. Please let me know your thoughts =]
10. @Jayjormom Thank you so much for you response. I am currently attending LSU, but I changed my mind to getting my ADN at Charity first (b/c of the hands on experience I was told about) Of course I will be doing the bridge program and get my BSN at LSUHSC or ULL, but what worries me is the employment rate for Charity graduates. I am told it will be hard to find a job with an ADN around New Orleans. I was thinking of applying to Slidell's hospital after I am done with nursing school too.
11. @Isabelle49 When you graduated from Charity, did you have a hard time finding employment within Louisiana and out of state?
12. Hello! I want to ask for any opinions on Charity School of Nursing from previous graduates, present students, etc. I am looking at Charity for their on hands experience in the nursing program. Any information is welcome. Please and thank you!
13. WanderingWilder, Yes, I am considering to stay at the university in the Fall and transfer to a community college in the spring semester. I have already called community college about how the transfer will be like ( documents needed, financial aid information needed, etc. ) There is another university in my hometown, but if I were to transfer to the community college for their nursing school then I would need to take anatomy classes at the community college for it to count. I think it will take me 3-4 years too, but I feel like I still have motivation to keep me going for nursing.
14. Hello, I need help deciding on whether or not it is a good idea to transfer to a community college from a university. The reason I am considering transferring to a community college is the nursing program there. I could attend the university's nursing program, but I have been feeling homesick lately. Last year, my mother had health problems and I was not there to help her out when she needed it. My older sister is there to help, but I understand she can't always be allowed to get off of work to help our mom who fainted while being at work. I feel like I need to be there at home to watch over my mom while attending school instead of attending a university an hour and a half away. I do want to get my BSN, but I am not in any rush to get a Bachelors. I do not mind getting an Associate's Degree and transferring in my last semester to a university that accepts students from the community college's nursing program. If I were to stick it out for one year at the university and then transfer to the community college, then I would have to take the Anatomy courses at that community college- I can't take the Anatomy course at the university I am at. That is why I am considering transferring in the middle of the year to take Biology, Anatomy 1,English Comp 2, and humanities course for next semester. What do you guys think?
15. My schedule is Chemistry, Micro, two humanities, and a psych class. I am planning to drop this one hour credit class for the introduction to statistics class for pre-req needed for this nursing school I am applying for. Should I enroll in Intro to Stats this semester? Any advice is accepted. Please and Thank you!
