Finish out Psych degree or Switch to Nursing?
Thank you so much for all the feedback! I'm planning to discontinue pursuing Psych and start working on my BSN. Its going to take a bit longer, but It will be cheaper. I also found out financial aid is still offered as long as an undergrad student doesn't exceed 180 credits. Regarding psychology, I enjoy Psychology, but I figure I can always study it on my own time :) the learning doesn't have to stop just because it won't be my major anymore.

Finish out Psych degree or Switch to Nursing?
I was originally majoring in Psychology in university- I will be entering my undergrad Junior year this upcoming fall.. and am about 75% away from finishing my Psychology degree. I will graduate in 1.5 years if I finish with Psychology. I had a change of heart when I started volunteering at a hospital. I helped serve food to ER patients, and was around nurses and felt inspired by their care. I contacted the Nursing department within my university, and I was able to make a switch to Nursing within my university. The thing is that will take about 3 years to finish with a BSN (Since I still have some pre-reqs to take). The first year would be towards pre-reqs, and the next two years are strictly nursing. I feel so conflicted. I don't actually have REAL medical experience besides that short volunteering experience. I think I could be good at Nursing, as I am compassionate and a hard worker. But I don't know enough about it to feel confident about my decision. I am not sure if I should just finish with a BA in Psychology since I am almost done, and then consider applying to a accelerated BSN program after. OR if I should just go for it, since I have a place in the BSN program if I'd like (this would be the cheaper option as well since i am an undergraduate student). I was thinking to start the semester towards a BSN degree (taking the pre-reqs) and in the meantime shadow some Nurses (there's a local program at the hospital available in the Fall) and use that semester to decide. What do you guys think?

Should I do Nursing or OT?
I am a student in between choosing Nursing or Occupational Therapy as a profession. I have completed enough credits to be considered an undergrad Junior at my university. Option 1: I just got accepted into a Nursing Program at my university, and it would take 3 years to complete based on the credits I have now. Option 2: The other option is, to major in Psychology- I'm about a 1.5 years away from completing a Psychology degree, and from there apply to OT school. I feel like my personality and interests lean more towards OT. It seems more holistic in its approach towards care, and it looks like you can have more quality time with fewer patients at a time. It also seems less stressful. On the other hand, I found the OT therapy sessions I observed to seem kind of boring. I know this is debatable and I hope it doesn't offend anyone, but it almost felt like Nurses provide more care and have more impact on a patient. I've only shadowed OTs though, and not Nurses, so I feel I may not be seeing the whole picture. But to be quite honest, I am turned off by the huge financial investment OT school would be (as opposed to Nursing- atleast in my situation) and I feel Nursing may provide more opportunities for growth, and variety. I am easily bored, so I feel this is great for me! It really seems like you can work anywhere, and in so many different departments as a Nurse. Anyone have suggestions?

Is a Rehab Nurse similar to an Occupational Therapist?
Hi there! I was curious if a Rehabilitation Nurse plays similar roles as an Occupational Therapist? Are they comparable? What exactly does a Rehab Nurse do? If possible, can someone describe a typical day of a Rehab Nurse? Also, I am looking for some advice: I am a student interested in both Nursing and Occupational Therapy as a profession. Option 1: I got accepted into a Nursing Program at my university, and it would take 3 years to complete based on the credits I have now. Option 2: The other option is, to major in Psychology- I'm about a 1.5 years away from completing a Psychology degree, and from there apply to OT school. I feel like my personality and interests lean more towards OT- it seems more holistic and more quality time with fewer patients which I appreciate. But to be quite honest, I am turned off by the huge financial investment OT school would be (as opposed to Nursing) and I feel Nursing may provide more opportunities for growth, and variety. Anyone have suggestions?

I'm at a crossroad. Should I go into nursing?
Hello everyone, I'm facing a dilemma right now. I just got into a nursing program at my local university. I went into it somewhat half-heartedly. I have interest in Nursing, but I also have interest in Occupational Therapy. I would have 3 more years to graduate till my B.S.N. I need to finish a few more pre-reqs next school year, then I'll start the major classes. Just recently, the chair of my department said the program has been put on conditional accreditation due to low NCLEX-RN pass rates. This concerns me... I have been interested in Occupational Therapy for a long time. If I switched my major to Psychology, I could graduate in 1.5 years. From there, I could apply to OT school, which would be another 2.5-3 years. I shadowed a few OT's and I liked it. I liked the creativity, the one-on-one care, it seemed less demanding than nursing. I still have interest in Nursing. I like the idea of being there for a person at a very vulnerable time in their life. I liked the flexibility of the field, and how much variety the field seemed to offer. But, I'm really concerned about how stressful it could be to be a nurse(from the research I've done). I tend to be a person that can really internalize stress and absorb the emotions of the environment around me as I'm very sensitive and empathetic. I also like the idea of being done and able to start a career right after I graduate and not worry about the stress of getting into another college and so forth-- I really would prefer not to go to graduate school if I didn't have to (more school, more money, more time...). I'm not sure what I should do. Also, the school's accreditation concerns me... although the chair said that they have made plans in order to remove the status. Anyone been in a similar situation? I feel like a small part of me is lying to myself about wanting to pursue Nursing.. and I am just doing it to be safe, and secure. But another part of me also feels like maybe I should give it more of a chance, and I may find it to be great. An insecurity I have is that I may go into Psych and not go into OT, and be stuck with a crappy job. Help...
