HESI A2 Experience
So, today I took the HESI A2, and I got a 92% overall. I had to take the math, reading comprehension, vocab, grammar, chemistry, biology, and A&P sections. I just thought I would share my experience and scores. I was extremely nervous going into the test even though I studied for the past month. You have 4 hours for the test. You can pick what order you take the sections in! I took the reading and math first because I wanted to get the more time consuming sections completed first. I hear the official Elsevier book is very helpful, but I didn't have enough time to get a copy of the book. However, I found a few others at Barnes and Noble that proved to be useful! I used Trivium Test Prep HESI A2 Study Guide. I felt the sections that covered all the study material for the various topics were pretty helpful. The practice test was helpful except for the math and chemistry sections. Those two practice tests had a lot of types of questions that weren't even on the test. For practice tests, I suggest McGraw-Hill's 3 Evolve Reach (HESI) A2 Practice Tests. The math tests are very similar to the actual test. Math section: I got a 96%. Again the practice tests in the McGraw-Hill book helped me a lot. Know how to do equations with fractions, decimals, ratios, and memorize your conversions including metric and english conversions!!! If you are scoring well on those practice tests, you will be fine on the real exam. Also, yes a calculator is provided on the computer. Reading section: 92% I only took one practice test from the McGraw-Hill book. I suggest just taking a few practice tests because they ask the same type of questions as the real exam. Chem: 84% I felt lost as far as what to study for this section because all my books had very detailed questions. However, the real test has VERY basic questions. The practice tests weren't helpful but the information provided in the Trivium book in the chemistry section was for the most part. Biology: 100% The material in the Trivium book was helpful for review as again it was VERY basic bio questions. The practice tests were in more detail than the actual test. In the McGraw-Hill it gives a list of bio topics the test covers. Know the basics of those topics. Vocab: 90% I studied the list of terms given in the Trivium book. Also, I suggest doing the vocab tests in the Mcgraw book. I recognized words from both study aids. Grammar: 90% The test has the same type of questions as the McGraw-Hill book. This section is just a matter of taking the practice tests and improving on the type of questions you miss. A&P: 96% I felt like the questions were also pretty basic. The Trivium book has about 20 something pages on anatomy that covers all the body systems. knowing the muscular system is helpful. The practice tests in both books were helpful. I think my best advice is to keep taking practice tests!! Preparation is key! I would read the study material in the books a good 3 times and make flash cards on anything I didn't know. Also, I watched videos on youtube on any topics in math or science I wasn't sure of. Try to use as many resources as you can to improve your score. :) Good luck to everyone out there.

questions.... like oh if someone asks you for the password to take an online exam at home what would you do? Things like that. The only personal question they really asked was why did you pick FAU, and how do the philosophies there fit in with your own. But there was really nothing that gives them a chance to know you. I had someone that would ramble on forever in my group lol. My suggestion, try to answer questions before other people do because everyone ends up having similar answers. I feel like mine went OK. I wasn't nervous just kinda thrown off by some of the questions. I thought it would be different. Best of luck!!!!!! Hope you do well in your interview :)

So it was small groups! 4-6 people. Not very personal questions at all! I didn't like it A lot of scenario questions!!! I felt like it was kinda awkward, but it didn't go terrible either! I used the official ATI book to study!

Yeah, I've heard that too. Honestly, I don't think they should favor FAU students. Give the acceptance to the people that are most qualified regardless of what school they came from. And, that's what I'm hoping for that it's not just a matter of cutting people off by scores. I'm hoping the interviews do make a difference and experiences you have. I did have plenty of time to take it again. My only reasoning for not was, I don't want to keep paying for things if it isn't necessary. These applications and testing processes aren't cheap! So I figured if I called and it sounded promising then I wouldn't. Honestly, I was shocked I did that well because that type of testing I usually struggle with. I did a lot of practice tests, but being on the computer seeing that little timer counting down the whole time would just make me mind blank unfortunately. That's great that you have more opportunities! I wonder if these other schools do group interviews or individual. Congrats on hearing back from your second choice! You must be so excited :) It's already an honor to just receive interviews with how many applicants there are.

Yeah, I don't feel like it gives them a chance to get to know you in that type of setting. I would feel more comfortable if it was one on one. But I did read in another post that it wasn't that bad. I haven't been able to find any information as far as what questions they are asking. They do seem very selective. I've read a lot of posts where people had high grades and TEAS scores and didn't get in. I felt confident until I started reading that! I know I have a 4.0, but now I wish I had retaken the TEAS. The website was having issues the day I took the exam, and it actually skipped pages on my last section, so that pulled my overall score down. However, I spoke with the lady that we had to RSVP to about the interview, and she told me not to bother taking it again when I told her my GPA. I hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot here. lol Do the other schools you are applying to also require interviews?

Yeah, I live only 5 minutes away, and I have classes there all week From everything I have heard, it seems that it is small groups. I don't really get how you interview people groups, but I guess we will find out soon enough!! I'll let you know how it is though after I finish. I heard they interview 80 people and only accept 40. You would think they would want to narrow it down to less than 80 for interviews!

I went into the nursing building before, and they gave me this paper that had a bunch of info on it about the program and various deadlines and dates. It says it on there! I'm hoping for the best!!! :) What time is your interview?

Orientation is set for April 22 as of now. So, it shouldn't be that long of a wait. Either way, I wont be sleeping much until I find out! lol Also, best of luck with your other applications! Hoping you get accepted to your first choice of school!

Does anyone know how many people they will be interviewing? I have an interview tomorrow at 8:30!! Super nervous. I have a 4.0 overall GPA, but I didn't do as well as I wanted to on the TEAS. I scored a 79. However, I called them to see if I should retake it, and they said no to just apply. So, we'll see what happens! :) Good luck to everyone!!
