Hurst is a 3 day review and focuses a lot on breakdown the disease processes so u can apply them to the NCLEX questions. My school actually required we take it and even paid for it for us. If you fail you can retake the class as many times as you need to. Or maybe you should enroll in some RN refresher courses before you try again.

I would stick with you current pay system. It honestly take a year to become proficient working in home care but it is possible! I run a busy home care agency and this is the biggest issue with nurses new to home care and I always tell my nurses it takes time! I walked into an agency with a mass nursing turn over and currently have nurses starting to hit their year mark with the company and they have finally got it down! some tips: Always call your patients the day before to schedule Plan your patient education the day before as well! Complete as much charting in the home as possible!! At least 80%. Make your physicians phones calls in the home, or in the drive way before you leave the patients house And get as much Oasis education as possible!!! These tricky questions can take a lot more time if you don't u don't stand them! Having a salaried position is so much less stressful that having a per visit rate where you ha e no guarantee! Also make sure that your company pays you for any additional visit you do over your expected productivity! No sense in working overtime if you don't get paid for it

If you can travel to take it do! The problem you are having is exactly what they help you with in the class. You may benefit from the Kaplan review, they focus more on answering the questions where as the hurst review focuses more on content.

I started as a new grad in home care. After 2 years I was able to get a job in the hospital. It was frustrating because I didn't have any acute care experience so my pay was new grad pay. I took a huge pay cut to go into the hospital. And although I got the new grad pay, I didn't not get new grad orientation. I got a total of 6 shifts with a preceptor. I transitioned very well into the hospital with my home care experience! My assessment skills were very strong and I had all the basic skills needed to be successful. I did end up going back to home care because of the pay. I definitely make way more working in home care.

I definitely know how you feel. It took me 8 months to get my first nursing job and That 8 months was the most miserable time of my life. I finally got a job in home care which has been amazing! I have worked my up and now manage my own agency making 6 figures a year. Iv only been a nurse for 5 years. Keep your head up and don't be picky about that first job, it will get you where you want to be even if it isn't your first choice.

I would recommend taking the Hurst Review in person or trying another nclex review class in person. So much more beneficial than online. I don't think I would have passed with out takin. The in person class

Call the AZ state board of nursing. They can answer any of your questions. It may just take longer to get your approval for your license once you test because they will most likely investigate the incident.

I see this a lot with new nurses and the number one thing you need to focus on is changing your attitude towards your job. Being a nurse (especially a new nurse) is not easy by any means, but having a bad attitude towards your job can make work miserable for not only you but your patients and coworkers. When we as nurses get wrapped up in our day to day duties we seem to forget why we got into nursing in the first place, to help people. Focus on your patients and that is where you will get your satisfaction from. You can make a huge difference in someone's life in that 1, 12 hour shift.
