UC Davis MEPN
Great GPA! I've been working as a CNA for just over a year now to get a feel for the healthcare world because my BA is in Communication in Public Affairs. I got in 2014 from Chico State and worked while getting my pre requisites done. I used the Samuel Merritt guidelines for classes and they were all the same for Davis, except pharmacology and pathophysiology, which are only requirements for SMU. I'm not sure which program you're applying for, but I would recommend e mailing or calling the counselors or advisors to check about your classes not expiring. I don't think your BS would make a difference, but maybe if you were trying to use some of the classes as pre reqs? Hopefully you can use them still!!

UC Davis MEPN
Thanks for the information!! No, I only applied to these two programs and I didn't know much about the MEPN track when I applied (and still don't). My goal is to be a NP, but I've always heard it's best to work as a RN for a few years to get the necessary experience instead of jumping into a NP position. I was given a scholarship for Davis and I still have to add them to my FASFA list, so maybe that'll help my decision as well. I don't know much about the MEPN to NP track, is it possible to double dip some of the classes? Or will the NP program be another 2 years or so? I also have some homework to do on the CCNE and ACEN accreditation, I'm not familiar with requirements like these either. What school are you leaning towards going to? And why? If you don't mind sharing….

UC Davis MEPN
Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get some advice and opinions! I recently got accepted to the ABSN program at Samuel Merritt University (SMU) and the new MEPN program at UC Davis. I have read positive and negative reviews of both programs. My main concern is understanding the difference between receiving a MEPN vs. ABSN and how that will impact my resume down the road. I tried to talk to someone at Davis about these, but was told there are no advisors or counselors available to answer general questions about the MEPN program. Here are some questions and concerns I have, if anyone can answer these that would be great: 1) If I was to go to UCD, will I be receiving a BA in nursing during the first half of school and later choosing a specified field, such as NP? 2) Would graduating in the inaugural class at Davis make it more difficult to find a job rather than graduating from SMU because they are well known? 3) After completing Davis would I have to go back to get another masters to become a NP? 4) What is the job category difference between the two degrees after completion? Any insight or advice is appreciated!!! Even if it's not about something I asked. Thank you in advance for any help! Good luck to everyone!
