License by Endorsement...Checklist Confusion
So I've applied for a NJ RN license by endorsement. I submitted my application online, paid the fee, paid for NURSYS verification, and uploaded my birth certificate, and passport photo. I now have questions regarding the checklist, but have not had luck getting in contact with anyone who can help me. So if any of you can answer my questions I would be so thankful! This is the part of the email I sent to the board... "First, I already submitted my application BEFORE requesting fingerprint cards. Is that a problem? One part of the site said to request cards first and the other said to submit the application first... Secondly, on the license requirement checklist, am I responsible for any of these items?: Notarized application - submitted mine online Transcript - will the NJ BON contact my school or do I need to? Current license - do I mail a copy or does NURSYS submit it with my verification? Child support - do I need to submit something that verifies I don't have it? C & A in state - anything I need to do? Also, do I need to mail in a signed copy of my application payment receipt since it was done online? Thirdly, how long should it take for me to receive my fingerprint cards?" Thank you all for any help you can give me!

Problems with Florida licensure
So I'm going to be graduating in a few weeks (in Florida) and I applied to the State Board of Nursing and Pearson a couple weeks ago. So for the Board of Nursing I found a livescan provider, got my fingerprints done and everything...but how do I know if the Board got them? The gentleman that took my prints said he gets a lot of nursing students that go there, so I trust that he did everything right, but I 'm not sure if I should get a confirmation that the Board got the results. I went last Friday, so it's been 5 days... If anyone has recently applied in Florida and has any idea if this is normal, please let me know!

Any tips for a new synthesis student?
I'm in OB. The unit is an LDRP so I'll be seeing patients before, during and after delivery. I really like that since during my OB clinicals L & D and postpartum were separate. I'm also on night shift...never pulled an all-nighter before, but I guess I am now! My preceptor seems really nice though and I can't wait to start next week :)

Bad preceptors and the demotivated state of nursing.
At my school we were told that the preceptors for synthesis (our final course/preceptorship) had to volunteer to take us. During all of our previous classes we just showed up at the hospital in our groups and were assigned to nurses for the day. I understand that having a student thrown at you when you go to work one day is a shock, and not fair to the nurse. However, if preceptors have to volunteer to take a student for 8 weeks of synthesis (which is what I have been told over and over by every instructor at my school) then they should certainly be willing to work with that student and teach them. If they are forced into being preceptors for our last 8 weeks, then my school is severely uninformed... As for asking if you could put on SCDs, I agree with "better to ask than assume". I would just say yes and hope they weren't thinking when they asked.

Yes, "nursing synthesis" is the course name for our preceptorship at my school. Sorry, I forgot it's not called that everywhere.

First semester nursing student
I absolutely hated my first semester! I spent a good 12 out of the 16 weeks stressing over what a horrible mistake I had made entering nursing school.. We didn't start any clinicals until our second semester, but even then they were...not my thing. After that things only got better. I'm not a fan of MedSurg and hate anything to do with critical care, but I still enjoyed my clinicals thanks to my instructors and the nurses I worked with. Then I hit OB. There is no doubt in my mind that I want to be an OB nurse, I love it! There are sooo many fields of nursing that you can't dismiss the whole practice just because you don't like geriatrics. You're going to go through school and you'll hit a class that just clicks. I have classmates that love the ICU, some that are passionate about trauma, the NICU people, and the aspiring midwives. All of us have found a specialty that we love, but very few enjoy all areas of nursing. If you really don't think that nursing is for you, there's no shame in that. Just don't quit simply because you don't like geriatrics. If you get through this I'm sure you'll find an area that you love, and then you'll be glad you stuck with it Good luck with whatever you do!

Any tips for a new synthesis student?
Hi everyone! So I still can't believe it, but I just start my final course and I graduate in just 8 weeks! I'm so excited about my synthesis placement, yet so nervous at the same time Anyway, I just joined here and thought I'd ask all of you wonderful nurses (and students) for any tips you may have for me. Anything you can think of that will help me make this synthesis experience the best it can be, please share!
