Question about teaching..what do you think?
Hi! I am a nursing student and just started my pediatric rotation. I have a quick question about teaching. Patient is 16 y/o male just had a PICC line inserted so that he can receive medications daily when he goes home. Would it be good to teach him when to call the doctor or nurse type things such as signs and symptoms that warrant medical attention regarding the PICC line? I found this brochure and was thinking about giving it to the patient and his family as well that talks about when to call the doctor or nurse. What do yall think of my idea for teaching? I would greatly appreciate any feedback! Thank you and have a great day!

Question please help!
Hello! I'm doing my pediatric rotation this semester. My patient this week is a 16 y/o diagnosed with hemophilia in 1997. His reason for being in the hospital this visit is due to a hematoma in his right knee. He was recently hospitalizaed in july for an inguinal hematoma. At that visit, he received Factor 8 Recombinant BID and was sent home 10 days later. This visit, he is also receiving Factor 8 Recombinant BID. A PICC line was placed in his right arm 2 days ago and will be going home with it so he can receive Factor 8 Recombinant at home daily. He was complaining of pain the other night and has been on bed rest to help him heal since his admission. He cannot bear weight on his right leg either. PT will be coming for crutch training I think. My question is about choosing some nursing diagnoses for him. I have to choose a physiological and a psychosocial. I was thinking about doing "Risk for injury r/t deficiency in blood clotting and impaired mobility" as my physiological, and "Risk for situational low self esteem" or possibly "Loneliness" as my psychosocial. What do you think? Please help! I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance and have a wonderful day!

UT - Houston Students to Be
FOCUS is a 2 week experience where you pretty much get a head start. you will cover a couple of the first lectures and check off with different skills (such as handwashing, bed making, foley catheter insertion) that the other students who don't participate in FOCUS will have to do during the fall semester. i would strongly recommend doing this! they only take like 40 people i think though. you should have received something in the mail about it..that's weird that you didn't. there is no requirement for joining..you just have to be quick to respond because they only take a certain number of people. good luck to you all! if you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

question..
good morning! okay, this is kinda off topic but it is something that happened to me last night and i was just wondering if anyone could provide some input or something. last night, as i was fixing my dinner, i started getting this weird feeling. it came out of nowhere. i started to feel really heavy and like i was being pulled towards the ground. when i would go to sit on the couch, i felt like i was being pulled back toward the couch. i kinda started freaking out. i was mostly freaking out because i was home alone and i didn't know what was going on because i had never felt like this before. i sat down for a minute and took some breaths and continued to eat my dinner but minutes later i started feeling shaky and sort of got this tingling sensation in my fingers. my neighbor, who is a good friend, is a nurse so i ran over to her house. she was gone, but her husband and kids were home so i stayed over there for a bit until she got home. she told me that my blood sugar level probably dropped and my body was reacting to that. she also said it may have been an anxiety attack. as i was waiting over at their house for her to get back home, i sort of felt like i was going numb all over. i was trying to scratch and pinch myself to see if i could still feel it, and i could but it was dull. when she got home, she told me i should go eat some carbs/protein so i had some peanut butter, oj, and some turkey. a little while later (probably like 30 minutes) i felt a little better. i have no idea what was going on but all i know is that i have never felt like that before. anyone know what might have been going on? any sort of input would be greatly appreciated..i'm just so confused. thank you!

i keep having this horrible thought..
hey. ok, so for some reason i keep having this horrible thought that wont go away. well..a couple weeks ago, after i turned in my confirmation letter thing to UT, i called up there to see if they got it and the lady said they had received it. i felt good after. well yesterday, i woke up and i felt that i needed to call them again to make sure they really did get it. so i called and my phone was really staticky..i couldnt even hear the lady so i was like 'i apologize my phone is all messed up, let me call you right back.' so i called back from my cell phone, and this lady picked up and transferred me and when the lady picked up i was like 'hi i was just talking to you about if you have recieved my letter of intent' and she was like 'whats your name?' and i told her my name and she was like 'umm i wasnt just talking to you'. then she asked for my info and she said they received it. aahh i feel like such an idiot..i dont know why but i just do. one, i feel like an idiot for saying 'i was just talking to you' and two, i feel like an idiot b/c i checked twice to see if they received my stuff..and im worried i annoyed them..i dont know..do they even remember who they speak to on the phone? haha. ughhhh and now im having this horrible thought that they're going to unaccept me now..hahh yes yall probably think im retarded or something but i cant get this thought out of my head. they can't unaccept me can they? :uhoh21: well, yes i think im worrying for nothing (i hope its nothing)..but hey! whats new? hahaha.

i'm so torn..please please help!
hello! ok, i know i've posted about this before but i am so torn here. i got accepted to the BSN program for TWU-Houston and UT-Houston..and i do not know which one to choose! i've tried weighing out the pros and cons of each one and i'm still so lost. i have til this friday to make a decision and i am freaking out. i know its pretty much a win win situation, but it's still a BIG important decision that i need to make quickly. i was wondering if any of you could please help me with this difficult decision. if you attend one of the two, how do you like it? do you know someone who attends either one? what have they said about it? i've heard UT is a bit tougher..what's your take on that? i know UT goes 5 semesters and TWU goes 4..that's not a big deciding factor for me though..i don't mind going to school in the summer, b/c if i'm not going to school, i'll just be working. why does UT go 5 semesters and TWU only 4? well, just please please please help me if you can! thank you so much in advance!!!!

Hello! Between UT-H and TWU-H, does anyone know which one is cheaper or are they about the same? I'm trying to decide which one to choose and I think I should consider the costs and everything. The UT packet said the BSN program is "approximately $9,000 per year"..does anyone know what it is for TWU? If so, PLEASE let me know! Thank you in advance!!!
