  1. thanks guys for all the replies. so i guess it's pretty safe for my friend to bring her laptop and pda to the US, even on a tourist visa, without worrying if she'll have any problems because of bringing those things. BTW, it's ok to hand-carry these items right? she was even thinking of checking-in her laptop, which, in my opinion, is not a good idea.
  2. Hello folks. I have a friend who'll be leaving for the US soon on a tourist visa, and she's just so scared to bring any Nursing review materials because she might be denied entry. She won't bring any Nursing book, but she has some reviewers in her laptop and some notes in her pda. So the question is, is it ok to bring her laptop and pda? Does immigration check the contents of these devices? thanks for any info on this! And cheers to allnurses.com! :)
  3. thanks for the info suzanne4. i'll tell my friend about what you posted. thanks!
  4. "If he tries to do it before, it makes a big mess of everyhting and I definitely do not suggest it." -- what does this mean? what shouldn't he do? thanks...
  5. I have a friend who recently passed the California NCLEX examinations. He has no SS # so he has not received his license yet. Now he would want to work in Florida. How does he go about it? Can he apply for reciprocity/endosrsement to Florida, or does he have to take the nclex exam again, given that he has no license yet since he has no SS#? thanks for any info on this.
  6. thanks very much suzanne4, you're really a great help! :)
  7. Hi to all! I have roughly 2 mos to study for my upcoming nclex exam on march. i'll be starting to study now and i have two books with me right now, the Kaplan Course Book and The Saunders Comprehensive Reivew. To all those who took the CA NCLEX, please help me decide what to read. i have only time for one book so if anybody can give some inputs, thank you thank you.
  8. Is it true that some nurses who took the nclex in hong kong are denied entry in the US when they use a tourist visa to enter? they say nclex uses biometric fingerprint scanning which shows up in the immigration at the port of entry. is this really true? do you know someone who had a direct experience on this? or is this just an urban legend? on the other hand, are there people you know who were able to enter the US on a tourist visa despite having taken the nclex in hong kong? thanks!
  9. Considering that a foreign nurse is in the US, and has passed the Nclex. Now she finds an employer who then files for her adjustment of status during this time when there is still no retrogression. She is given a working permit and is now working. What will happen now if, while she is waiting for her adjustment of status, retrogression comes back. Will she then be denied the adjustment of status? In relation to this, are visa numbers (those 50,000 visas for nurses) counted on the basis of the number of visa applicants or on the number of visa approvals? Any information will be of so much help. thanks!
  10. hey guys, just following up my concern. anybody can share their inputs? please? thanks:uhoh3:
  11. As in my case, i plan to go to the US on a tourist visa and take the nclex there. they say it is possible to have an adjustment of status with the help of an immigrant lawyer in order to be given a work permit and subsequently an immigrant visa. My question now is this: is the Visa Screen Certificate needed upon application for adjustment of status, or can a person apply for an adjustment of status even if his visa screen certificate is still being processed? this is the dilemma i'm facing: should i go to the US right away (after i take my cgfns this nov) and take the nclex in order to 'beat' the retrogression speculations, or would it be better to have my visa screen processed while i'm still here in the philippines, and just go to the US probably early next year? that way when i arrive in the US i already have my visa screen certificate, and therefore, if indeed the visa screen certificate is needed for adjustment of status, there is a lesser chance for me to be out-of-status. any input would be highly appreciated.:)
