Never said I was just in it for the money, but I do have to make a decent living. I don't think there is a single person out there that can say they don't care about how much they make. I care about my patients and take excellent care of them. If all I cared about was money they wouldn't be taken care of. I asked a question that I was curious about. I never said I was just in it for the money. If I can provide excellent care to patients and make even more while I do it then it is a win win situation.

This may sound strange, but I'm a registered nurse in Kentucky. I have no kids so I'm up for moving to anywhere. I currently work in ICU. I was wondering what state do RNs make the most? What field do they make the most in general? Example: hospice, VA, hospitals, etc? And, what all can I do with my nursing license? I've tried google, but there is just so much that comes up that I don't even know where to begin. I plan on traveling later on, but not right now.

Okay, so here's my story! I graduated in 2015 and immediately accepted a job. I was hired straight into the ICU. I had heard horror stories about the hospital I was hired at, but I chose to shrug it off since they offered me a job before I had even graduated. I was oriented to the unit and it was okay. Nothing special. My heart tugs toward psych nursing, but I was told not to go straight into psych nursing because I needed to learn my nursing skills before doing so. I'm working at a unionized hospital that is very under staffed, half of the staff are travel nurses. We are completely paper charting and I feel like we are so fat behind. I work 4-5 days a week already and my schedule sucks. They try to even call me in to work when I get my 1-2 days off. I also work night shift so if you get one day off then it's like you get 0. I have 4 more months there and I will have been there a year, but I have been offered a new job in a place that is 2 hours away. I would have to drive it because I won't break my lease, but the pay is quite a bit more. Should I stay in this hospital or move on? I'm so miserable that I come home and just cry. Everything, besides the people I work with, sucks. I pay $400 a month for crappy insurance that I can't even use because I still have to pay quite a bit out of pocket if I go to the doctor. Management is horrible. I was told when I was hired that they would work with me on my schedule since I was furthering my education - that was lie. I just want to cry when I know I have to go back to work, but I don't know what to do. Should I accept the new position? Should I stay for the 4 months? Or, should I try to find a psychiatric job somewhere?

I really want to do something with psych - it's my passion. I'm going to be doing the psychiatric nurse practitioner program next year as well. What can I do with my RN license until I graduate that is psych related? I live in Kentucky, but I don't want to work at Eastern State hospital due to short staffing and a few other things. Is there any other things I can do with my RN license that is related to psych?

Okay, so I currently work in the ICU - been there 8 months. I'm just not happy with the hospital that I work at. I have been offered an LTACH position as an RN making around $40 an hour on dayshift which is around $15 more than what I'm making now and I'm on night shift. You get to make your own schedule at the LTACH facility and you get a $5000 sign on bonus. I deal with ventilators and drips every day that I work, but I'm not sure what to really expect at the LTACH facility. Any advice? Should I accept this position?

I was offered a travel nursing position from Staffing Medical USA. I only have 8 months experience as an RN and was wondering your thoughts on this? I'm also currently getting my BSN.

Do you know what the pay is?

Okay, so this is going to be a bit long, but I am desperate. I am currently working in Kentucky as a nurse at a hospital that I am not so thrilled with. I have been a nurse 8 months and I was hired straight into the ICU so I've worked there the entire time. It wasn't so bad at first, but now the hospital has started making us work 4, sometimes 5, days a week. I am currently obtaining my BSN and they are aware of it. I asked them to switch me to weekend shifts since no one ever wants to work the weekends (we don't get paid more to work them) and all of my co-workers had no problem with it, but management told me no. Why? Because it would be too much trouble for them to re-do a schedule where people weren't on a rotation... Our hospital is about 50% travelers and 50% staff nurses. They cannot keep their staff. It's not a great place to work and on top of everything else it is still completely paper charting. I'm desperately trying to find a new place to work and I'm not sure where to even start. Any suggestions? I actually had a recruiter offer me a job to start traveling, but I don't think I have enough experience to do that at this point. Any suggestions for places in Kentucky?
