  1. I have 30 years experience in another field. How is looked upon when applying for nursing school. I have been in teaching. I plan to do two additional years so that I can hopefully, take the pre-requisites in night school and then, leave to take the remaining classes if I need any, take the required test and then, apply. Although I live in an area that has 3 nursing programs within an hour's drive I am hopeful, that I get into UTA with the online program. Besides having a Bachelors I also have a Masters in a different field. I wonder how they will look at that. During the time that I will be in nursing school I will have a minimal income so I hope that I do not need to apply for financial assistance. I do not recall having filled out the FAFSA on my first run in school. I never have received financial aide except for scholarships for being on Dean's List. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
  2. I am at a point in my life that is similar in some respects. I was talking to my daughter about it over the Christmas holidays. She is currently in her third year of medical school. She stated that the LVN programs will start being phased out by 2020. I am not sure what this means for current LVNs. She stated that RNs with Bachelor degrees will be the employers choice of candidate. I suppose that the employers are wanting someone w/ more knowledge. She did not tell me the reasoning behind this. So, as I make my plans I am searching only for programs which are for a Bachelors degree. While you may be busy with child rearing you might be able to handle an online program are offered by reputable colleges and universities around the country. I am teacher who is trying to change careers. I have 2 yrs to take prerequisites before I quit my teaching job and make the move.Good Luck with you decision.
