  1. Looking back on it, if i had to chose areas in which to concentrate I would have a strong understanding of the autonomic nervous system (understanding receptor/ligand interactions will greatly contribute to understanding of the MOA and pharmacodynamics of everyday drugs) as well as pulmonary physiology (volumes, diffusion, recruitment, etc.) just my 0.02. good luck
  2. Due to a few recent close encounters upon extubation, and standing behind the "blood brain barrier", I have become acutely aware of my lack of eye protection. Does anyone have a recommendation as to a make/manufacturer/website that they have found helpful? Thanks
  3. wondering if anyone can shed some light... After placing an LMA after standard induction today, patient began began hiccupping. After deepening the patient, it persisted, and we administered 25 mg benadryl. I was curious as to the mechanism of action, cant seem to figure it out, or find it anywhere. Any input greatly appreciated
  4. Dont be discouraged, I have had strictly peds experience, applied to two schools and was accepted to both. Speaking with both program directors, I was told that they have been impressed with the students with similar backgrounds. Also, I have a friend that is now a junior, and is doing very well. Try to get into somewhere that uses a lot of gtts, vents, and look for a unit that offers many educational opportunities. Best of luck to you.
  5. the only thing i know for sure is that it is a 30 month program. A former coworker of mine is enrolled in their first class.
  6. I may be able to answer a few questions. I graduated from an accelerated BSN program, and am starting CRNA program this spring. I dont think it made less vable a candidate due to the nature of my undergraduate program. As far as your sciences, it may be mandated by any accelerated pgm to have taken your sciences courses within a certain time frame(mine was 5 years). hope this helps good luck
  7. RNNJ- They had tolkd me that they get together and discuss the appplicants about every two weeks or so. That being said, I heard within that time period, but i wouldnt get down if you havent heard...no news is good news...I interviewed with the asst. director and the director. keep me posted on your progress and good luck. The program is on the upper ecehlon of cost, but my understanding is that most of the schools in this area are in the range of 60-70k. Penn's program is 24 months, shorter than most if not all than the programs i've looked into, and that is time that i wont have to go without salary.
  8. Hope all went well in your interview at Penn. I interviewed there and was accepted for May, 2006. My take on the financial cosiderations is this... the program is 24 mos. as opposed to 27 or even 30. So, theoretically, it is 1/4 of a year of receiving a salary(at least that is how I can justify the investment). at least that is my 2 cents. Good luck to you.
  9. In my limited expereience with interviews(one) at Penn, they did bring up my past grades, specifically the sciences,so as you are jsut starting your career, my advice is that it wouldnt hurt.-Again i am just starting the process myself, and this is advice after one interview. good luck
