Where I work they have hired quite often new graduates with no previous nursing experience but school. I am 65 and have learned to keep my moth shut....the newbies run right to the supervisor and claim pc status over something...then I get harassed for not being a team player. Once I stood up for a new nurse and got in trouble for that. So much for age discriminatio.
The management attitude is track down the gossip and slay the dragon wether said dragon is guilty or not. Its an attempt to shut up all the ones who feel like they deserve a trophy to.
It happens most often when your supervisor cultivates some staff to be informers on other staff...being some staffs best friend, going out with them, giving them days off they want etc. Just a game they play and when you won't play....your the oursider.
Gossip is really bad where I work. The worst part is the floor supervisor feeds it,goes around perpetuating it by interviewing staff about who said what to whom. Then tells the person who reprtedly said something that they aren't living up to one of the 5 pillars.. it makes no difference if the person said what has been claimed they said...your guilty. Peroid.
