  1. As a past traveling respiratory therapist for 8 years, let's take a look at getting you some traveler info. This magazine is free: Healthcare Traveler Home Page | Healthcare Traveler good tips and information. Usually travel companies want nurses, RT's, etc. with a minimum of two years experience. If you have your experience down, you can start applying to several companies or call, e-mail inquiries and see what they offer. Most are similar: up to $1,000 per diem which is: money in your pocket to find your own housing or the company keeps the money and finds you housing. Personally, as I travelled in Minnesota , Iowa, Colorado and Montana; I preferred the company to find me housing: didn't have to locate something, get utilities turned on, etc.. In addition, you'll get an hourly wage. Keep track of mileage as this is tax deductible. Aureaus in Omaha is a pretty good company to work for on a travel assignment. Clubstaffing is another. Check out the ads in the magazine. Ask for more help, David MSRT, RRT-NPS
  2. Let me give you my perspective. Being right off of orientation can be frustrating for you and others as well, however they know you can do the job, just need to be motivated with a great attitude and ask for help when needed. It may be a little frustrating finding your place, but it will be well worth it. Always ask, but the main thing is to relax, take a deep breath and believe you can handle any situation that comes up. Being relaxed helps you to do the correct thing. Take your time, you aren't expected to be able to do things us lifers can! You'll be fine and ask questions, that's why we are a team!! You can even ask my brothers and sisters in respiratory care if you need too!! They can be great resources as well. David, MSRT, RRT-NPS
  3. As an RRT-NPS with a MS degree in Respiratory Care, with over 34 years experience. I often tell co-workers, if it wasn't for some financial obligations (student loans) I'd do this for free. I have fun every time I go to work. Love pediatrics, but recently moving to a rural hospital, where NICU/PICU patients are a rarity. Enjoy yourself, have fun. Not everyone is motivated by money, in the healthcare setting.
