  1. The time does go by fast after the first year (I think there are just so many new adjustments the first year) The math thing you will get it sooner then you think..Every clinical you will have a math test which forces you to go back and review and eventually you will do it in your sleep..I hate math and when I had to take that class I remember thinking.... I will never understand this stuff..But I am not sure at what point it was but you do eventually get it..New Instructors for each class help you get their perspective on things you previously didn't understand and that helps alot. Just do one class at a time focus on just that and try not to think about the huge overwhelming picture ahead of you say to yourself...I will make it through this class and before you know it you'll be in your last semester thinking Okay I just have to make it one more semester and let me tell you that is very good feeling that you have survived and glad you didn't give up. Have those support people at home (who will talk you out of quitting when times get rough) and good study buddies who want you to succeed with a motto we are all in this together that is what has helped me this far. Good luck to you and feel free to email me if you have any questions r/t things you really can't discuss on the boards. Gin
  2. Great job to all of you...I am finally in my last semester at WCCCD and I have 14 weeks and counting to count down to that final Final...It has taken such dedication to get to this point but I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel...I knew nothing about nursing coming into this so don't feel like your the only one..No one will understand what it is like to be a nursing student except for your other school mates...My family just rolls their eyes at me now when I start getting overwhelmed and screaming "But, Nobody understands what I am going through" They just don't get that it's like boot camp. Just be confident and say I will get through this..I don't work (which I think decreases my stress level compared to some of my friends who do) which allows me the time to be a partial mother (Oh the guilt with the kids is the worst feeling, but long term it pays off) and a full-time student. I am kind of jealous with the experience they are getting working, but in time I tell myself I will have the same oppertunities...It is normal to feel high anxiety, nausea, stomach cramps, extreme sweating when attending your clinicals... last semester I almost quit because I was physically ill everyday I had clinicals..I lost 10 pounds because my stomach was so upset I just couldn't eat (not that I minded the weight loss). I am okay this semester the first week of the unknown was scary, but I really like this clinical and I don't feel intimidated (which is mostly the case when I feel ill) I am done rambling have to get ready for lecture..Good luck YOU can do it!!
  3. How true... I have one more semester left after xmas break and I feel my life looks the same way. I have 2 children and my oldest is 8 I thought her seeing me study would be a good influence, but after this journey I may have discourage her from growing up and going to college. I guess I might be losing it too often. I owe those babies big when I graduate like a trip to disney land for putting up with me!
  4. Which hospitals in the Wayne County area have good preceptor programs? I will be graduating in May and I guess I should do med-surg to start with, but I am extremely nervous about it. I would really like to work somewhere where they care about training a new nurse properly. I have been unable to do an externship due to my hectic school schedule and children needing to see their mom. It seems like most of my classmates are just thrown into situations with out proper orientation at their externship jobs. I would just like to avoid that. I want to learn my job and be good at it and not be resenting it because I was not trained properly. Any insight would be a wonderful help because I do not know anyone personally who is a nurse to ask. Thanks.
  5. Congrats to all of you that got in!!!:balloons: And those of you that didn't keep TRYING! It takes a strong person to keep reapplying if you really want it! I am now almost done with my 3rd semester in the NUR program @ WCCCD. It has seriously been the longest road in my life and it feels like it's never going to end. I totally agree with My Simple Plan GET THAT HOUSE IN ORDER! Buy a lot of crock pot meals..Forget the man they are supportive but they will never clean or be a mom like you. (And when you start losing your mind they get tired of hearing "I think I am going to die!") Start gathering the big support group now because you will never be able to be late ever again and excuses are not acceptable. (ie. "my grandmother just died would it be okay if I left class a little early to make it to the funeral" Response: "Wow that must be difficult but I will take 5% off your grade if you do.) I am telling you this so you are prepared for boot camp. You do need a true friend in the program Becareful some want to be the best and they will walk on top of you to get there... BEWARE. Those lovely modules disappear after medsurg 1. Learn to highlight only the most important information. Learn the material everything connects (who would of thought the human body would be so complicated...I wish I had paid better attention in anatomy then just memorizing. I am reconvincing myself on a regular basis that I can do this..So all of you hang in there...Congrats again!:balloons: One last bit of advice C=Nurse is our motto
  6. What happens when a patient is in the middle of hemodialysis treatment and the machine breaks down. What is the standard procedure? What are the risk to the patient? What if there are no techs available to fix the machine? I am a nursing student and we just had a clinical day in dialysis. I was just kind of curious about what the nurse would do? Thanks so much for contributing to my education...:smilecoffeeIlovecof
