  1. My frst job in Healthcare was a PCA position at the hospital I currently work at. Getting the position wasn't easy but I did have experience in said hospital from clinical's during nursing school. I was also very persistent with my applications, everytime my application was filed but now hired I would submit another one. I think after a while they hot tired of seeing my name so they called me in for an interview.
  2. I am a med surg PCA in Texas my starting pay was 9.73 an hour plus night and weekend differentials and benefits. Weekdays my pay is 11.80 and weekends 12.26 the differentials are based on a percentage of my base pay. I also don't pay for insurance the hospital covers it all because I am a full time employee. I have experience from nursing school but I am not certified. I was hired full time for the oncology floor but float to all five med surg floors regularly. I know resource pcas in hour hospital make 17.50 an hour base pay without benefits and er/ccu/pcu pcas make around 12 an hour with benefits before differentials. It all depends on the type of position you want. I hope this helps!
  3. At least you were able to retake the classes. I was in a nursing program that required a 78 in all nursing courses. When we started the program we were told we would be given the option to retake a class if unsuccessful one time and after that we were out. I failed MedSurg by less than a point and was told that If I took pharmacology and passed that I could retake med surg. After passing pharm they decided to change their policy and wouldn't let anyone repeat nursing classes at all. I have been out nursing school for over a year and finally found a school that would accept me and am happy to say I will be starting over this spring. Sorry for the long post but the point of this is they can do whatever they want as long as they enforce the policy across the board and don't selectively enforce it.
