  1. HaHa! Absolutely not! I remember sitting in my psych clinical rotation in the milieu thinking "I will never work in psych!" I worked many years as an Army Nurse where I got burned out of Emergency Medicine, Surgical ICU and PACU. I was even considering quitting nursing because I felt so burned-out. A friend of mine who worked in psych suggested I pick up a few shifts at her job as a PRN nurse. My first response was NO! She assured me that it was the furthest thing away from blood and guts that she could think of in nursing. Then she suggested that I make it clear that I only wanted to work in substance abuse and not crises stabilization. I suppose she could tell that I was a bit weary of the psych ward. The nurse manager who interviewed me assured me that she would keep me in substance, which she did for the first 2 years. Then, I got deployed and when I came back, my new nurse manger floated me to the other units at the hospital. The wards consisted of crisis stabilization units, an eating disorder unit, a dementia unit, and a children's ward. To my surprise, not only was I comfortable, but I loved it. So much so that I went back to school for psychology with the intent to become a psychologist... Just finished my BA in psychology. Debating on Master's in psychology then PhD or psychiatric nurse practitioner. Ask me 10 years ago if I would want to be a psych nurse and I would have looked at you with furrowed eyebrows and crazy eyes. Ask me now how I feel about psych and my face lights up and I'm pretty sure there's a gleam in my eyes... at least that's how it feels to me. Good luck on your endeavors.
  2. Thank you. They notified me by phone and told me that my official acceptance letter was in the mail. Very nice welcome packet too!
  3. Hey! So I was accepted and started classes in January of this year. My experience overall has been great! My advisor already has my completed degree plan laid out until the end of the program and she makes sure that I'm registered two terms out so I have a pretty good idea what's coming up ahead. Most of my classes all have e-books which I like because I can access from anywhere that I have internet (the only classes that required physical textbooks were my A&P courses). I can open up my class shell and books from my home computer, in the classrooms(because they have wifi access), as well as on my app on my phone. They have tons of support from online tutoring to on-campus workshops. They really promote for us to be successful. The professors I have had so far at Chamberlain have all been professional and very knowledgeable and many are working on their Doctorate's or currently have their Doctorate degrees. Side Note: There is also an option to have your e-book printed and mailed for a few dollars more. Financial Aid is was simple for me. The courses are very quick though and if you are a procrastinator, you will learn not to be or you may not do too well. I feel like I just started last month, but it has already been 8! I am very pleased with my decision to go to Chamberlain, especially after interacting with other students from other schools at clinical sites and realizing how much more knowledgeable and comfortable I am than they seem to be. The only down side is the $$ but I applied for a bunch of scholarships. Hope this helps.
  4. Msjchuck, Congrats. Did you ever go back for you MSN? I know nursing school will be tough. I applied for Spring 2016. It's just refreshing to see a post from someone who actually completed the program and has good things to say.
  5. Hello everyone, I recently applied to Chamberlain College of Nursing in Jacksonville, Florida. I am nervous because I was told that my packet went up to the board last week and now I'm anxiously awaiting the final decision. I have completed an AA in general education and also am a practicing LPN who went to Concorde Career College for their practical nursing program back in 2007. This makes me very familiar with expensive private schools and how they work. I completed my HESI last week and scored a 92.7% first try. Because of my military background, I have been to about 7 different schools and getting all of my transcripts sent to Chamberlain was pretty expensive. I am not sure how they calculate GPA, so I have no clue what my GPA was when my packet was sent to the board. I plan to contact the school after Thanksgiving break if I do not here anything from them before then. I'm curious to know... anyone who has been accepted to Chamberlain, how were you notified of your full acceptance?
