  1. I spoke with someone who has a niece in PR who just finished nursing school. She said there is some political unrest due to finances. Is this true?
  2. Thank you Momof113. Both for understanding how time consuming this process is and for all of the helpful information. Best of luck with your future nurse! I'll check into these school. She still has a year since she is a junior and will try to visit a few. She may get some aid but not much so net price is important. Also, I love college confidential....full of great info! I don't think I would encourage my daughter to join this thread. I have found some comments very hurtful and not focused on the topic.
  3. She is open buts likes a good athletic program and preferably a city of any size. We live in the woods and she had a great spirit and wants to see the world. She liked uky but that is 2+2. If she doesn't g why accepted she has to pick up and move. Her brother goes to Temple and she loves it there. Anywhere with a decent program and extras.
  4. Great suggestion. Thanks
  5. It's all she has wanted to do since 8th grade when I was diagnosed with cancer. She wants to be a pediatric oncology nurse. We spent a lot of time at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and she was hooked. Thanks for the college suggestions. I will call advisors after Thanksgiving to see how competitive they are. Are they all direct admit? The other schools I called said these were minimums but their actual dmit numbers were much higher. I will keep calling..... thx
  6. Thank you for the parenting advice. I am helping her with the process because it is extremely time consuming finding colleges that match your major, gpa, test scores, etc. She is busy with school, work, basketball, and college classes at night. And I love her very much so I offered to help her with this. I would appreciate if someone would suggest a program that will accept a student with her stats so we can discuss it as a family. Thank you for any suggestions you can provide.

  8. She has no preference just not in state, Maine. Most of the guaranteed admission programs want a 28. I don't think she will get that but she will try. I want her to apply to schools that are realistic for her and to not fell badly if she gets a 25. I just went through this with my son based on his GPA and test scores and we found a good mix of options and choices. Unfortunately, although it is nice to shoot for the stars most colleges have a minimum standard for scores and use that for admission because it translates to success of the pass rate % on the NCLEX which gets them a higher rating in US News and world report. For nursing programs they just list minimum requirements on the website although the admitted students have much higher stats. This is what I've learned from the nursing admissions I've talked to. If there are any suggestions for BSN direct admit schools that admit students with similar scores I would love to know what they are. Here are some stats: http://www.nln.org/docs/default-source/newsroom/nursing-education-statistics/percentage-of-programs-that-turned-away-qualified-applicants-by-program-type-2012-and-2014-(pdf).pdf?sfvrsn=0
  9. It's based on her psat and we she has taken the act test at home. We have the act official study guide and she has taken to a CT test and a home and studied. We've studied the wrong answers and retaken it but she is still in the mid range. 24-26.
  10. Ok any suggestions where she could get in? I talk to schools in New Mexico Kentucky Texas utah and Florida and they are all looking for higher test scores. She's pretty well-rounded. Speaks Spanish host exchange students is a big sister and works at a kids club. From the stats I've seen I don't know where she can get in.
  11. I've looked into the direct entry programs and we will apply to those as well, but it seems the acceptance rates are around 25%. Where can be 50 to 75% for the ASN programs. Most direct entry programs are looking for ACT scores 28 to 31.
  12. I'm afraid she won't get in to a nursing program after doing her first 2 years. Originally we were looking at University of Kentucky. You go for 1 year then apply to the program 40 are accepted out of 210 applications. I asked them what the other hundred and sixty applicants do she said change their major. I don't want to put her in the position of having to change her career because she doesn't get in.
  13. Looking for my daughter. She will live anywhere but would like a college experience with sports and living on campus. 3.8 GPA hasn't taken ACT but I would guess 24-26 range. Thinking she gets ASN or ADN- RN anywhere then transfers to a decent school for BSN. And does each program have different pre-reqs? Thoughts? Advice?
