Are private schools worth it? Or should I just wait...
It is hard to answer that question, as if I wait a year to hear back from other schools, it's not a guarantee...so instead of waiting a year...or more, I think I would be leaning towards the private school. But to directly answer your question, yes i would wait...but I don't really understand where you're going with this...

Thank you for your help! I will definitely look into this!! -- I did my research and Roseman has been ACEN accredited since 2011. In Spring 2016, they will be doing a continued evaluation; after a few years, schools need to be reevaluated I believe. But thank you again for your help; so many aspects to look into when applying to nursing.

Hey paramedic90, I definitely agree. Some private schools will only give you an expensive piece of paper, and some will give you opportunities. With Roseman, a lot of neighboring cities in Utah want to hire these graduates, so I just have to determine if I want to stay in Utah after, or go back to California. Leaning towards to staying in Utah, as California likes hiring California graduates unless they have a lot of experience. Also, I am trying to apply to some loan forgiveness scholarships, where they will place you after you graduate in a low-income or rural area. This is not for all graduates, but I definitely think it's for me, as I want to spend a few years helping the community in need as I believe it will strengthen my experience, and just make me a better nurse overall.

Hey missmollie! This becomes difficult to wait, as most of the schools I am applying to...their applications are due end of January 2016, and the private school starts February 2016. But I still will apply to some schools early, hoping to hear back at an earlier time. 60K is terrifying, very terrifying. I'm praying with all the scholarships I will be applying to will help in any way!

Hey there DameonL! Nice, are you in the process of applying or have already gotten into the program? And you're right, I was looking at a ABSN school in Connecticut, but it would cost a lot more to fly home when needed, and living costs are more expensive there than in Utah...and I'm sure their winters are more brutal, making life more difficult. I am not concerned about the 90% requirement, as they give you a lot of chances to meet the 90% requirement. I believe there are three different ways to meet the 90% requirement, they'll explain it more in the interview process. I am more scared of how quick the program goes, but the fact that the courses are online, I believe it gives you more time to adjust and determine your schedule so you allocate more study time based on your need. I did receive work study, so I am trying to decide if I want to work a few hours a week to keep myself sane, as I am not someone who can just do school 24/7. (if that makes sense) Where did you see that online??? You also want to think of the reasons behind 50% of the cohort not making it; during my interview, there were a lot of parents, whether it be a baby on the way or already with 2 kids. I believe that becomes difficult, because of how fast the program goes, so that could be a factor behind it. Do you already have an admissions advisor for Roseman? I speak/email to my advisor weekly, and she can definitely answer or ease any of your concerns. Their staff is awesome, and extremely helpful!

I definitely did my research on Roseman, and they have an awesome staff. I already speak to my advisor on a weekly basis, and the financial aid director and student services are always quick to reply to any of my questions. It is also nationally accredited, and hospitals in Utah are quick to hire the graduates as we do over 1000 clinical hours. I think I will definitely take your advice and try to speak/email with recent graduates, as I think that it will soothe some of my worries! Thank you for your response, always appreciated!

Thank you Heathermaizey! Your advice helped a lot. I definitely feel in love with Utah, as I love being close to the mountains, and all the close hiking spots. Also, I am only 23, and I would graduate as a RN when I'm 25. I also would like to stay in Utah to get some experience, then move to California...so you pretty much read my mind! I definitely agree...as a new grad of 2014, it took me roughly 3-4 months to find a job with a biology degree. It just comes down to the price, because of the high interest rates on my private loans; and just worrying and not having the guarantee that I will find a job immediately after I graduate. But there will ALWAYS be those uncertainties with everything...THANK YOU AGAIN!

Hello TinyNurse2be! Thank you for your comment! Much appreciated! The school itself doesn't offer any scholarships, but I will be looking into outside scholarships, and just apply/write essays to try to diminish any costs; but I really can't guarantee that I'll be receiving any scholarship help. Well this is a school that is on a rolling basis, so I can't defer; and I would have to reapply. I already have my loan options, and I don't qualify for a pell grant as I already used it up for my bachelors degree. I only have 25% help from student loans and the rest would be private loans. Private loans can have huge interest rates, which is my big concern as of now, the thought of not being able to pay it off... Thank you for your suggestions, really helpful!
