Got into CRNA school. now cold feet?
I think it's a great field. People get caught into the whole salary thing, which is fine, but being a CRNA is not really much about the money, but the passion to do the things you do. Sure, we all need to make a living, and a job that pays well certainly makes us feel better. Many of us are doing quite well as RNs, making a lot more than the average joe. Back at the bedside, I used to bring home more than 150K a year, only working 4 days a week. As an SRNA now, I realized that with anesthesia, you can't just do it for the money, you have to like doing anesthesia for you to survive. As a bedside nurse, there's quite a lot of responsibilities, but you have other nurses and doctors to help and assist. As a CRNA, you may be on your own with little help, and people expect you to function right off of school. There's a lot more responsible and like every other SRNA and CRNA will tell you on here, if anything happens to your patient...it's always anesthesia's fault. In the end, do you enjoy doing it? Only shadowing can answer that.... Will loans and being away from family pay off in the future? Yes, but only if you like what you're doing. Keep in mind there's lots of politics within the anesthesia community and that being a CRNA not only means providing anesthesia, but also giving back to the anesthesia community by attending conferences to better ourselves and fight for the profession.

Sugamadex and Pregnancy
As for the pregnancy, it is a steroidal binding agent....all you have to do is tell the child bearing age female to use another form of contraceptive

Sugamadex and Pregnancy
I agree with both wtbcrna and off label. The price of the neo/glyco combo has gone up recently, thus making both reversals comparable in terms of pricing. I think it was around 80-90 dollars per neo/glyco vials and the same for suggamadex. As far as using suggamadex, my facility uses it like water. We are a big teaching institution and buys suggamadex in large quantities... From what I have seen, it literally takes seconds for the drug the work and the patient doesn't have the "floppy" look afterwards. It's interesting since one of the surgical attending was like.... What did you guys give, she's super flat and now awake like crazy.....??? lol.

Rant: DNP is a joke
I'm sure you all know this, but DNP programs are meant to aid in the utilization of research and evidenced-based practice. They are not generators of research but rather consumers and people who disseminate research. If people wanted to do original research, then why not go to the PhD route.

University of Maryland
A friend of mine in the program said that all of the "initial" acceptance calls are made... So what will happen now is that they will wait until mid-December to see the final official count of students who are accepted, and then the calls for the wait-listers will be made.

Interview wasn't bad at all.... They just wanna get to know you... Decision they said should come out late this week or early next week by phone. I definitely like the fact that they have upperclassmen to help ease anxiety. They're helpful.
