Cook Children's Feburary 2016 Cohort
HI :) To prepare for my interview I googled "common nursing interview questions" and did mock interviews with my friends. At my school we also had opportunities to schedule mock interviews with staff and they gave us a set of questions as well to practice. So the best advice I can give you is practice, practic, practice. This will help alleviate jitters and make you more confident the day of the interview. Below is a list I made and they aren't the same exact questions you may be asked but if you practice a response to these I think you will do great: Describe a time when a coworker or faculty member made an unpopular decision and how did you go about it? What does patient care mean to you? Why did you pick your chosen career? What interested you in this particular position? Tell me about a time when you have gone above and beyond for someone you worked with. Tell me about a time you had an issue/conflict with a coworker. If I called your last employer what is one thing they would tell me you are good at, and one thing they would tell me you need to improve? Describe a time you demonstrated coping skills. Explain a time you had to deal with a difficult patient or family member. Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond for a patient. Tell us about a time you provided excellent customer service. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE HOPE TO MEET YOU ALL SOMEDAY!

UT Southwestern Winter 2016 Residency
Yes they are definitely going by units! All I know is that they have contacted ER and Critical Care candidates for interviews. But good luck guys I hope all turns out well it goes a long way with HR if you are persistent, it tells them that you are truly interested and in their eyes it's worth to give you a try :)

UT Southwestern Winter 2016 Residency
Oops yeah I was thinking of another applications I did! Their deadline was originally Sept. 25th but they extended it 2 more weeks because they received about 100 applications or so for all the internships combined and they wanted more. It may definitely help to apply to maybe 2-3 more places and for sure consider Parkland since they barely opened theirs last month and haven't held any interviews yet so they may be a good choice. For me I applied to 5 hospitals and was fortunate enough to be called, interviewed, and offered a position by my first choice and I just declined 2 interviews this week. It may have been bad that I accepted before doing any other interview, but it's all I ever wanted and hopefully it works out for the best. I'm focused now on trying the pass my NCLEX on my 1st try!

Not necessarily, although it helps sometimes it doesn't always guarantee a job. They extended their deadline for applications 2 week even though alot of internal candidates applied before the original Sept. 16th deadline. I have 3 friends who applied for the critical care internship and currently work on the med-surg units none have heard back yet. However, I have another friend that works for Parkland and is scheduled to interview this week. That fact that they have contacted you already is a good sign!

UT Southwestern Winter 2016 Residency
Awesome! The hospital is great and I would have definitely stayed if it weren't for me believing pediatrics is my calling. They tend to be one of the leading organizations salary wise on graduate nurse pay for the DFW area, wish you the best of luck!

UT Southwestern Winter 2016 Residency
I currently work at UTSW they started contacting people last week and I was scheduled to interview for this Wednesday, but I declined the offer since I have accepted an offer somewhere else. I recommend communicating with HR however and doing your best to get yourself noticed! They are holding interviews this week and next week from what I have heard, but it doesn't hurt to put yourself out there. Goodluck!

Cook Children's Feburary 2016 Cohort
I heard that the system isn't updated very well. My friend's status changed to say she wasn't selected either last week around Monday yet she was still scheduled to interview this past Friday. My status never changed since I applied it always said it was still being reviewed so I didn't expect to even interviewed and was surprised when I received the call. In the end I think it just isn't accurate!

Cook Children's Feburary 2016 Cohort
Lol that is true, but I think it will be alright. Just try take a deep breath and not rush your answer :) They know it's a nerve wrecking experience and can't expect a perfect answer from everyone. Hopefully all goes well, good-luck! Maybe we will see each other on the other side Also have you received an e-mail yet about instruction on where to meet and park? Dr. Ann Smith told me I would receive an e-mail of instructions from Ms. Murphy but I haven't yet.

Cook Children's Pediatric Nurse Residency program - July 2015 Cohort
It might be true depending on their experience or how long they have worked there. I work at UTSW and an ER nurse was hired on at 31 start pay but he had 3 years experience. It really just all depends :/ I know that doesn't help much

Cook Children's Pediatric Nurse Residency program - July 2015 Cohort
I'm not sure but most hospitals in the DFW area start new nurses off at 24-26, I know Parkland is 24, UTSW is 26, I heard Baylor is pretty low 22, not sure about Methodist. I'm solely interested in peds or NICUs so Cooks would be my top pick :)

Cook Children's Feburary 2016 Cohort
Hi Everyone! I am super excited to be interviewing for the 2016 February Cohort and wanted to know if there was anyone out there just as nervous/excited! I read all the different posts from previous cohorts and found it funny that there were not any posts for our cohort yet! I use this site all the time and just never registered, but here I am now :) Overall I have learned that the interview is pretty challenging, at least it will be or me D-: I have never had a panel interview for a job before! Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!!
