That's a good score. I wonder what the cutoff was. Do they at least tell you where you are on the alternate list?

Message me anytime. I am in that same boat. Failed out...TWICE. ADHD, divorce, coparenting, sister committed suicide, and a full-time job. I had no business trying to hold on. And as I turn 48 today I still have to keep going. My dream hasn't died, it just got a year older. I get to see two cohorts become nurses. Starting in January, I get to start all over and do 4 semesters. I'm not going to be dismissive and say "if I can do it so can you". Everyone is different. What I will say is if you get back up you will be one of the most headstrong, grizzled, combat-ready nurses you know. You'll hold that license and cherish that you fought like hell to get it. I say this because I feel like I will too. When I originally started school I was already non-traditional at age 45. So c'mon let's go be some bad-*** nurses! You in?

I have two NCLEX-RN books ATI Comprehensive Review 19th edition & HESI Comprehensive Review 7th edition My question is this: can they be used interchangeably to learn content in school? For instance, if I have an ATI curriculum am I hindered by the use of the HESI book (the color images and layout grab me)? I just have the ATI book because we had to get it. It's a good book but it seems too plain for my taste. In addition, how could studying from the HESI book impact my preparedness for an ATI exam? Thank you for your input on this.

Good morning! Can anyone tell me what the student nurses do as duties at Houston Methodist hospitals? I'm starting that position next month. To my knowledge, they're CNA (PCAs here) but I'm not sure what else they do or can do.

Anyone have an idea of how the class schedule is the first semester of the LVN program?

I was looking on the Alvin CC page and it says the GPA is based on the completed courses and not those in progress. With that being said, has ACC admitted anyone with A&P in progress? I know they say in theory you can have a 4.0 in the other courses (ENGL & PSYC) but should a prospective student bother applying with the aforementioned A&P in progress? In that scenario ACC only says that all prerequisites be complete prior to the start of class. Their #1 criteria seems to be HESI scores followed by completed prerequisite GPA.

That's awesome. I did speak to the nursing school and you can in fact test out as a CNA after the first semester of the ADN program and after the first two semesters and a summer session, can take the NCLEX-PN. I wish I didn't have to wait until January 2020 but that's life. I will be 44 when I start school. I'm here in Texas.

That is my initial instinct. I was somehow thinking that there might be an unforeseen advantage of being an LVN first. Part of this stems from me being in this industry for 30 years and growing to tired of it. It's why I ended up a CNA years ago. I know as a salaried manager I can hold this job until starting school in January 2020 while knocking out the prereqs. The hours aren't my problem. The problem is the lack of any control over my schedule. It is my ideal situation that I would be able to have a schedule that permits me to spend a reasonable amount of time with my family while they're still young. Boys are now 5 and my wife (which if I tell her age I die, ?).

Unfortunately, life changes have me.looking at these options for nursing school. Option 1. LVN Aug 2019 - Aug 2020 Transition Program Jun 2021 - Jun 2022 Option 2. EMT-B now EMT-P Aug 2019 - Aug 2020 Transition Program Jun 2021 - Jun 2022 Option 3. A&P 1 this summer ADN Jan 2020 - Jun 2021 I'm desperate to get out of working 70hr weeks in restaurants. The first two options just get me away from the industry sooner. Looking at it on paper I should go with Option 3. But I welcome your opinions on the other options.

From my limited knowledge, it must depend on where exactly you apply. Pure odds alone would suggest NH as the "easiest" to get into with 120 slots. CF one of the hardest with around a third that total.

I ask the points question here because I know y'all have more experience with it than I. Say i were to apply at (from 1st to 3rd) CF, NH & T. If I submit with a score of 7.22 do I have a shot?

No. To my knowledge, A&P I and Engl 1 are the classes and HESI is the exam. Maybe they take the higher of the English courses, but the scoring sheet is online.

B Fernandez AP 1 A which gave 16 points Engl 1 B which gave 9 Total is 25 ÷ 7 = 3.57 HESI 88 ÷ 25 = 3.52 Added up is 7.09 (I think)

Thanks, Nancy. I am really trying for an A. I get it I'm gonna be very VERY happy. If anyone is reading this I also want to know if there is a study schedule for the HESI if I have a month and have only the 4th edition of the Elsevier book from which to study. Like most schools (I guess), the sections we're tested on are Math, Reading, Grammar, A&P, Vocabulary and Critical Thinking. I really want in at CyFair but I also hear it's the most difficult to get into.

Well if I have to contend with my A&P I grade of B then I'll be having to go to the backup plan...HCC. Lonestar CyFair is in my neighborhood but if I cannot get in then I have to check HCC out. I won't be looking forward to out-of-district tuition or the commute, but it's that or wait for Spring 2020 at CyFair. That would have me finishing about June 2021 instead of December 2020 if I were starting CyFair this Fall.

Well then I have some serious work to do. I'm currently in another A&P I class because I did get a B previously. With my A in English this portion gives me 3.42 points. It's almost (no, it IS) imperative to get A's in both just to stand a chance. As it looks now, if I leave those alone I would need a perfect score (NOT) on the HESI to have a slim shot.

Will CyFair, North Harris or Montgomery tell you the cutoff score from last Fall (2018)? As it stands now mine is very dependent on the HESI. My weakest section is A&P. That and PATIENCE. From what I have read on here, anything less than 7.00 (ore even higher) is wait-list material.
