Thanks for your insights FancyPants! It is definitely unfortunate that many places will post in HFO yet already have a certain someone in mind. I'm near the city and understand that its hard to land a job there. I have applied to hospitals in the city as well as outside the city and I am willing to relocate though not too far (maybe an hour or so away). Hopefully I'll be able to land something soon....and I wish all you other new grads on here the best in the search of a job as well!

I'm sorry to hear that many of my fellow new grads are having the same experience as me! I agree it's really hard to apply for jobs when many of them require years of experience that we do not have yet. Are you also from Ontario?

Hey there, No I have been applying to numerous hospitals (I have applied to about 8 different sites)

Hello! I have graduated and passed the NCLEX (first try) over the summer and have registered for the New Grad Initiative Program. I've applied to NUMEROUS positions through the website with only one call back (did not get that job). The program gives you a certain time restraint to find a job otherwise youre on your own. Well, my end date for the program has come and now I'm feeling a bit lost. Because I haven't been able to find a job through the new grad program, I think it will also be highly unlikely to be hired into an RN position coming as a new graduate. Majority of the postings I have seen are looking to hire someone with years of experience - something that us new grads don't have. I have been thinking about going back to school to get my critical care certificate. I feel like it has been so long since I have practised in the acute setting and you know the saying "use it or lose it". At least this way if I go back to school I am refreshing my memory while still looking for jobs. Do you think I am making the right choice?
  5. "Well you'd better hurry up" - trust me I'm doing the best I can!
  6. Congrats on taking this difficult yet rewarding nursing journey! I have passed the NCLEX in the summer and have been job hunting ever since. Though it is definitely frustrating as I have yet to hear anything back from the many MANY jobs I have applied for...I am definitely excited and eager to start my nursing career as well! I can't wait to start my career.
  7. Congrats on passing the NCLEX! I too am a newly licensed RN and have been job hunting since the beginning of August. Unfortunately, I hear that the demand for nurses right now is not what it used to be, making it quite difficult for us as newly graduates to land a job post graduation. Therefore, wanting to work in a specialty making it even more difficult. The advice that I was given is to really have an open mind when job hunting. This includes being open to looking at RN openings in other departments as well as the possibility of working in a long term care environment. As well as being open to the location of work that may be out of your area. Building the right connections and networking also helps the process along. Best of luck to you, and hope we can both find ourselves doing what we love most soon!
  8. Hello! I have graduated from my nursing program in the summer, wrote the NCLEX & passed (first try!) and am registered with a body and have all my qualifications up to date. I have been job hunting ever since with absolutely zero luck. I have applied to numerous various positions in different locations and I have yet to hear back from any. I have had my resume professionally looked at, joined the new graduate guarantee program and attended conventions. Does anybody have any tips for a new graduate nurse who is very eager to start her career? Thanks!
