Forced to come into work on day off
We had another meeting this afternoon about it... Other people can volunteer to take the 'on call' for you. We will also be able to schedule what day we want to be on call, but if no one is signed up for that day anyone can be called.

I'm in south carolina if anyone knows off hand about the mandatory overtime.

Forced to come into work on day off
Also, we'll be staffing another department (cvicu) instead of our own (msicu). Can't provide any explanation other than no one wants to work in our cvicu, there have been two ft positions posted for months.

Forced to come into work on day off
Hi, A new scheduling policy is about to take affect and I wanted to check to see if its right/legal. So, in our ICU we are now going to be required to work a full 12 hour shift (over our 36) on one of our days off every 2 months. We will not know in advance what day this will be, and thus they are calling it an "on call day." Essentially we will be called out of the blue and forced to come to work, every 2 months. How on earth is this acceptable, my days off of work are my days off?! So my questions are... How is this legal? This was not mentioned in my job description, unless the famous "and other duties as assigned" applies.

My process in joining the Airforce
02/22/09 - Start a chat session on Airforce website, never get a response from the question I submitted. Submitted an "Information Request" via email. 02/23/09 - Receive an email with the local Airforce recruiter telephone number. Called the number left a message. 02/24/09 - No response from the voicemal left yet. Called Healthcare Recruited over 400 miles away, no answer... left a message. 02/25/09 - No calls from either recruiter yet. Started another chat session, actually getting a response this time on chat,. but about 5 minutes between each reply.

June 2008 NCLEX support group
Took mine yesterday, I'm scared to death... I feel like I had to make an "educated" guess on almost all of them. I had 75 questions, about 10 SATA, and 1 calc. I keep checking the pearson site about every hour... I just want to know! (And pray to GOD I passed!!). Congrats to all that have passed, great job! Luke

June 2008 NCLEX support group
Hello again! I take my test Friday, and I'm soo scared. I read my Kaplan book and feel, "I was never taught this." I take all of the quizes and tests and feel so lost and confused on a majority of the questions. Today will probably be my last day of studying, all I can ask for now is prayer... If you all would be so kind. Thanks, Luke

June 2008 NCLEX support group
I'm taking the NCLEX on June 13th (yes, friday the 13th). I feel very overwhelmed, I really do not feel like I learned anything in nursing school except how to take vital signs, literally. I took a sample 250 question test today and missed 83 questions! I guess the only thing I can do is continue to study and pray.

Dnr
that's right... the poa. however, i just called the national hospice and palliative care organization and was told differently. if the client has a dnr on file, the healthcare person it to follow the client's wishes (the dnr). ...i'm so confused...

Dnr
So... if the client has a DNR on record, and the family tells you to do CPR, you do CPR? I haven't read this anywhere... help me out, can you give me more info on this? You ladies (and guys) are great!

Dnr
I'm doing some research for a class of mine regarding DNR and had a question... How many of you have done CPR on a patient that you knew had a written DNR? How many of you have done CPR on a patent that had a written DNR that you where unaware of at the time? -- Additionally, if anyone knows where I can find studies that have been done on this (I'm coming up empty) that would be great.

Any famous RNs alive?
Hey there! I'm looking for some suggestions to do a paper on. It's going to be on a nurse that has received recognition by the nursing profession based on identified accomplishments in nursing-- and the have to be alive. My headings will include education, credentials, accomplishments, and what their impact had on nursing. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The nurses right to refuse to provide care
I don't see my previous post, so here goes (sorry if it shows twice)... Great responses, thank you! When a nurse does refuse to provide care, what are the implications on nursing? I know by word of mouth, nurses would start to be looked down upon, especially if it became to common. Someone wouldn't go to get care because, they know they nurse won't help anyway. But besides that, I really don't see what the implications on nursing as a whole would be... Any ideas?
