Washington License
So I finally got my first contract! I must have been so excited that I filled out my application to Washington for the endorsement wrong and forgot to add my social security number!! I am of course freaking out because I don't want this to delay my license as I start my job the 21st of March. (Just an FYI as to how it happened I filled it out at the public library a week before actually mailing it in just to be sure I would get the contract first and did not want to be carrying around this information.) And as I was re checking it to make sure it was all filled out I completely missed that blank space. Of course they are closed Monday for Presidents Day but I wonder if anyone can suggest what I do. Should I wait until Tuesday and call them and tell them what happened, or should I rush to the UPS store and overnight a new application and check? My only worry is that they would then cash both checks. But I guess if that is the cost of my mistake I would rather take that than not having the license. Is the BON usually nice and understanding or are they usually mean for no reason? If anyone can give me advice I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

Overlake Hospital Bellevue, WA
Thanks! And another question...is it typical that orientation is only a low hourly and no stipends? My agency told me that the hospital does not allow billing for orientation so they are just paying a low hourly and no stipends. Is this possible?

Submitting for multiple licenses
New to travel nursing and would like to open more options for job. Currently I am only licensed in my home state (IL not a compact states unfortunately). My question is can I apply to multiple states at one time, or will having one pending license hold up another? I am just not sure where I want to go first and I know that some licenses can take 4-6 weeks to get and I would like to start in March. Any advice for a first time traveller would be great as far as location. I want to be near a big city but not necessarily directly in it. Also, not really wanted to head to the east coast. More west coast or south, but still need good pay because I have mortgage at home. Where pays well around that time? (Besides Cali a I know that license takes forrrever) Thanks!!

Considering travel nursing
If you are on facebook there are also many helpful groups such as travel nurse gypsies. Its a great place to network and get advice! I go back and forth between here and there. I believe the gypsy group has a file with questions to ask recruiters or potential employers! HTH!

Stipend vs Company Housing
So it will be my first time traveling this spring and I wanted to know if money can still be made while taking company housing. I'd like to get the hang of things before going through the trouble of finding my own, but I would also like to take home about 1400/ per week. I will eventually get my CA license but may take a closer to home assignment. Is this pay goal unrealistic if taking company housing? Pay would probably have to be about 40/hr. Would anyone just recommend jumping right in and taking the stipend? I do have a husband and a 45lb dog so sharing a room is not an option. Im stepdown tele. Any areas besides CA that are known for paying well in the spring time? Thanks travelers!

California License Question
So I have requested a hard card for my fingerprints to submit for my California license and it is taking soooo long. I want to say my first submit was in September and I have done a couple since then. Is this normal for it to take so long for this? Can I just use the generic form at my local police station? Does anyone have any experience doing it this way? I want to put a phone call in to see what is taking so long but I've heard its hard to get through. According to the BON website they are up to date on their send outs of this but I find that hard to believe. TIA!

Question on cancelled shifts
Thanks for the great reply ned! As always :)

Question on cancelled shifts
No to be repetitive but in regards to being cancelled mid contract (regardless of a completion bonus or not) are there ways to protect against that? Is it a common happening?

Question on cancelled shifts
I have heard it is not uncommon to get your contract cancelled right before it is about to begin. My question is this: Is it common for a contract to get cancelled in the middle of it? I would like to take a job with a completion bonus but am skeptical if these are just offered to get you to take the job and then they cancel you early and don't give it. Is there anything to put in the contract to avoid this? For instance if you are guaranteed 36hrs per week and they cancel you early isnt this going against the contract? TIA~!

New to travel nursing
If I rented out my house, but not for the whole mortgage let's say half. Would I keep my tax home? Most likely would keep all of my belongings in a room or two. So would you texhnically say I am renting out the room?

New to travel nursing
Oh my you are lucky! That is exactly where I want to go first!! Just got back from vaca in San Diego and did not want to leave. I'm from the mid west so I am dreading the winter LOL. Yes we have thought about renting it out but have not made any decisions yet. Just thought it might be a hassle. How long have you been traveling? Do you like your agency?

New to travel nursing
So I am beginning to look into travel nursing, I have 5 years tele experience, however I do have a mortgage that is close to $2,000/month. I want to keep this for a tax home. I am not looking to make a ton of money, mostly just looking for the experience of travel, however I still need to fufill financial obligations. I would be happy making what I make now however I do work about 48/hrs a week and my husband goes to school and has a part time job. My questions are would I be able to live within reasonable means with this mortgage? (I have a hubby and doggie that will be joining). With the boards I have read there have been people who have had their contracts cancelled and payroll problems. For anyone that has had a contract cancelled last minute do you still get some sort of compensation? I mean after all a contract is a contract right? I haven't seen much posted on this topic so I am hoping someone can help a new travel nurse out. I do realize pay differs depending where you go, but in general would this be doable? Just looking for advice. TIA!
