Depressed self-referral to ED
I am only a student but this goes against anything I have learned or participated in on the wards. The restraint sounds extremely unethical and unecessary. I could never see this being done in any of the wards I have worked on simply because she was merely asking for help/support and was not threatening by any means. I would assume the locked door is enough (maybe even too much) of a restraint. I do understand that she needs to be assessed after confessing her suicidal thoughts before leaving, but is there a more practical way it could have been done? May I ask why all of her clothes were removed?

frightened of the abuser
Yes that is my concern too as stated, but if unpublicized then that means there are a whole lot of individuals who are being abused that will be unaware of its existence... so tough. I like the pamphlet idea in the bathroom, what would be handy is if there were a space on these cards to write/ confess hard times. Then could put it back in its nice little pamphlet shelf and maybe they could be checked daily.

frightened of the abuser
Has anyone heard of the black dot campaign? Its new to me but maybe it is an old thing... Im sure it has come in many forms before. So this is when victims of domestic violence who are afraid to speak up to healthcare providers can draw a black dot on the palm of their hand to alert us of the situation. I think its such a good form of communication since we are able to share it here without more 'abusers' knowing what it is. But then we have the problem of victims also not in the know. Have any if you seen things like this? Are there ways to let more people know while still maintaining safety of victims? Do new trends of communication occur when this sort of information gets into the wrong hands?

my chosen field of nursing
Hi all, I have been reading this page for a few months now and decided I have some questions and input of my own. I am only a student nurse, a ripe aged student at that. And I know how naive and ignorant us students must look (and are with barely any experience). I've read on here, threads of people talking about how much they hate their jobs so I am really concerned about which field I'd like to go into. I've always wanted to be a nicu or picu rn but often read on here how incredibly stressful that job is with a large patient load. Feeling a bit defeated - as is apparently normal at this stage in study. Please may I here of your pros and cons for whatever rn job youre in? Thanks 😊
