  1. Just want to make sure you guys know to check your Stony Brook e-mail. I'm not sure how, but some people were assigned mentees and that is how they reach them.
  2. I moved from Colorado and my classmate moved from Washington State.
  3. I didn't hear anything until November!
  4. Hey! I usually get an e-mail about messages posted, but I didn't about this one. I would call the IT department to verify. This system is relatively new so I'm sure there are times that mistakes happen. Also, this program sends an email to your references so just double check with them and make sure they understand the process. Hope this helps.
  5. The professors are EXTREMELY supportive! They are willing to work with you every step of the way. They definitely want you to succeed. As far as program competitiveness, everyone really is there for one another. I know that I can pretty much ask everyone in my class for help and they will do whatever they can. There is definitely a sense of camaraderie in my class and we all get a long (for the most part!).
  6. Pretty standard. Basic math like fractions, multiplication, division. Nothing you can't brush up on via Kahn Academy. And the writing was just a standard paper...can't remember the topic, but intro, body, conclusion type.
  7. They will definitely consider your application. When I went through their were quite a few people in the process of taking classes and I KNOW they were accepted :)
  8. I submitted my application maybe two days before it was due. Last year I think it was due October 11th and I didn't hear anything until November time frame. My interview was the first week of December and I received my acceptance two weeks later. They definitely sent me an e-mail and I had no idea what SOLAR was.
  9. Hi! It sounds like those recommendations would be fine as they are both professors and health care professionals. I would not be worried about leaving out an employer recommendation if all three of those are strong recommendations. I don't have the slightest idea what my pre-req GPA was as they were completed at three or four different schools over a span of ten years. Although, I do know that my lowest grade was a B. There are quite a few people that are in this program that do not have ANY health related experience either. So I wouldn't be too worried about that. Although, you can certainly volunteer if you are worried about that. As far as applying goes, if you don't apply then the answer is automatically no. I would just apply and see what happens. I would also suggest applying to the two year program. Determining where you stand is really difficult in this program because there is really no "common denominator" as far as those that have been accepted. Everyone in the program comes from different backgrounds and experiences and not everyone is an A student. I think they do a really awesome job of balancing the program out. Sorry I can't be more specific, but my best advice would be to just apply!
  10. I have a thread started for your class! Stony Brook Accelerated Class of 2017, but let me know if I can help answer any questions!
  11. I'm still in the program so I can't tell you too much about how well equipped I feel. I think that this program does as much as any one-year program can. I feel that I will be well equipped to do most of what will be asked of me on the floor, with hospital orientation filling in the holes. The program can't teach us everything, but so I far I feel that they will give me exactly what I need to succeed. As far as the NCLEX goes I have not taken them, but I do know that SB does significantly more to prepare students than other schools. I have friends in Kentucky, Ohio, Colorado and Texas in nursing programs and in my biased opinion SB is the only one focused on making sure everyone passes their boards the first time. As far as the program goes, make sure that you can go with the flow, "be flexible," if you will. Many changes happen at the last minute, but knowing that I will be done in one-year makes it all worth it. Please let me know if I can clarify anything for you.
  12. I would definitely recommend that you apply. I know quite a few people that were accepted into the program who needed to complete their pre-reqs. But the website specifically says, "completion of three prerequisite science courses by the application deadline." I think that if you at least have those than you should apply. I do know some folks that completed the pre-reqs up until the start of classes. Also, don't discount the two-year program.
  13. Anything that I might be able to help you with? Definitely make sure that you get those recommendation requests in quickly. Those are the most stress producing as it requires you to rely on other people.
  14. Not sure when the deadline is due, but I am here to answer any questions you may have.
