I am a new nursing student and we are doing a clinical at a long-term care facility. So far I am able to handle the smells while at the clinical (however I have not been exposed to things such as bad wounds or C.Diff or very bad code brown). I believe I am able to have a good poker face and not let the smell get to me. However, what I am finding hard time with however, is when I get home. I do throw my uniform in the washer and I also take a shower, but then eventually I can still smell that smell that is around the facility, even in some halls of urine and feces. Is this common when you are first starting out? And do you get used to it? I want to be able to provide great nursing care during my clinical hours, but not be reminded of it when I am at home. I did read about Vicks, I had just put some in my nose, but I can't even smell the Vicks! Any advice?

I am interested, but I would like to first start the classes to see which textbooks I actually need.

all of those classes are fairly, but i am not sure what beginning algebra is. I took college algebra and there was TON of hw. that would be the only class that is challenging for summer.

For those of you who are still waiting on scholarship response. Did you not get an invitation for the interview either? I never received a decline email nor the interview invite email. I know some interviews were already done, and so were the decline letters as well.

Well I live in Orlando, and I did go up to Gainesville this past weekend to visit. I was shocked that it was more rural that I expected. I do think I like Orlando more, even though I HATEEEEE the amound of people here and traffic. From the research I have done so far, UF nursing program and UF in general is a better school. BUT its a Nursing license based degree. I could be wrong, but I dont think people are going to be looking at what school we went to when we graduate. They are going to care if we have our BSN and if our license is good and on job experience. UF does have a hospital on-site and the college of nursing does look nice. I wish UCF Nursing facility was better and we didnt have to drive around to clinicals. It's a hard decision, but for me it will probably come down to if I want to move out of Orlando right now or not (and also break my lease i should add). Oh by the way I realized you were accepted to Jax. I think i would have preferred Jax, but applied to Gainesville. How are you making your decision?

I am in too. Now I have to double think before saying no to UF. I hate making tough decisions.

I see the enrollment appointment info as well, for end of March. I wouldnt think too much into it. We were already accepted to UCF, so we will have things like that on myUCF. What matters now is what College of Nursing sends us.

Well on UF nursing BSN program it states that you can only apply for financial aid through school of nursing after completing 2 semesters. I haven't really looked at Undergrad financial aid, as I know I won't qualify for grants, the only hope is some scholarship. And loans are gonna be the same no matter what school I go to. The cost of the program at UF is actually basically exactly the same as UCF.

When you said you were denied the scholarship, did you actually get an email saying you didn't get it? I didn't get anything. But I know it says they will give responses by end of month, so I am hoping maybe they will still interview me.

Since we all have a Bachelor's degree already, we won't be eligible for the grants, right (if we used it during first Bachelor's)?

For those of you who still dont have an email. It may be possible that they are waiting until the 10th to see how many people accept the offer. You may still get the email when people reject. Just a hopeful thought.

wow so many people going to Jax. I thought Gaineseville was the larger campus. I was accepted to Gaineseville, which is what I indicated on the app. I figured thats the main campus and will have better facilities. But I am kind of jealous of your guys going to Jax. I lived for few weeks in Jax before and visited quiet a few times and I like it. I never been to Gainesville. Does anyone know any differences between the campuses?

UCF vs UF: So I was accepted to UF Gainesville campus and I am super happy, however UF is probably my second choice, as I live in Orlando and I am still waiting on decision from UCF. from my understanding the decisions wont be in until about mid March. We have to make a decision by March 10th with UF, but the deposit is not due until 24th. Is anyone else torn? If i respond to UF but wait on my deposit until I hopefully hear from UCF by 24th. What are the implications on saying we will attend and we actually don't? Also, isn't UF harder to get into? Isn't it considered the best university in Florida? So with that logic, if I got into UF, i should definitely get into UCF. I am really not sure what to do though. Advice anyone? Please.

CHECK YOUR SPAM MAIL. All of my school decisions have been coming to Spam mail! So frustrating, but at least I realized it before its too late.

Does anyone know if the Open house is mandatory? It was odd that they said the final decisions will be made 3 weeks after the open house. It makes me feel like the Open House is more of an interview. I have class Saturday and don't want to miss it, especially since attendance counts and we take a quiz.

Wow I have to say, after EVERYONE telling me not to rush, I am starting to think may you are right. My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Psychology. My masters is meant to prepare you for a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. And I have decided not to pursue a PhD (I have lots of reasons for it). I have been unemployed since I graduated in May. I applied to hundreds of jobs, been scammed a few times and still struggling very much living from couch to couch. A lot of the positions I was interested in were for psychiatric nurses. And if you are not familiar with the field of psychology and mental health, nurses and psychiatrists take a lot of the jobs. I think I will take two classes per semester instead while still working full-time. Or would that still be too difficult? I think maybe I should apply for an accelerated BSN then, since those usually dont start until Fall. I can take prerequisites in the Spring and Summer, and be ready by then. Then hopefully after becoming RN I can work in psychiatric and mental health settings and then apply to be MSN. Or should I just wait take one course per semester and then apply for MSN programs when the time is right? I am pretty certain psychiatric nurse practitioner is what I want to do and I want to be in the advanced level of nursing where I can also be a researcher and a leader. Now I do understand nursing is pretty different from psychology. I have been doing lots of research and I am confident I can succeed and be great at it. It also has lots of similarities with psychology. Both professions are about helping others and require similar skills of empathy, direct care, science driven, etc. As far as paying for nursing schools, I was going to take off loans. Since I will be seeking a degree at that point, I didnt think I would have problems taking out student loans. Also, I would be applying to every scholarship I can find. I don't have any understanding loans, as I worked very hard to pay them off as they were coming in at schools. I understand how time consuming nursing schools are and I have begun to accept the idea of not being to work at all while in nursing school.

Oh also, some schools have a 5 year max date on the courses they are willing to escape. Since I graduated from my Bachelors in 2012, the longer I wait the less likely my courses are going to be eligible. My biology I took in 2008, I am already worried will not work for a prerequisites. And I definitely cannot retake ALL of the courses.

thank you for everyone's comments. The reason I have to take all courses in one semester is because I want to go to accelerated MSN programs and they start in the summer. I have to have all prerequisites completed by then. I have no choice but to do spring. I am changing my career. I already have a Bachelors and a Masters and I am about to be 25 years old. I cannot support myself at all at the current job I am in. I am looking to get started on nursing school right away. I feel like I just cannot afford the time or money to wait to start my career, especially because I want to do a Masters program which will take some time. Also, as I said I cannot support myself at the current job I am in. As far as taking all prerequisites in one semester. Is it really not doable? I am definitely not expecting it to be easy, but if I was taking 16 credits in one semester of hard science courses, I would not work at all. I never had the privilege of just focusing on school, so I feel like without worrying about working I can handle school alone. Graduate school was tough and I completed, I feel like I can handle undergraduate courses, especially without working. I love learning and I do well in school. I should definitely look into if there are any prerequisites. Everyone keeps saying to wait. But I feel like I am just not in a position to wait. I guess I feel like I wasted so much time already and by this age I expected to be establishing a career. And again I am not sure how I can go on living for another year when I dont have enough income to do so, especially if I have to come up with money for school. Has anyone successfully took all the prerequisites in one semester? In the accelerated nursing programs I will be taking 16+ credits, so I see it as a great way to get myself used to the hard work and amount of material.

I want to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practioner. I am missing a bunch of prerequisites courses for the programs (anatomy and physiology 1 and 2, chemistry, microbiology). I have been trying to take the courses. I have been accepted to a community college as a non-degree seeking student. However, I was told I am not eligible for any financial aid, not even student loans as a non-degree seeking student. I tried picking a major, but the community college does not have any applicable science or health majors. Also, I have to take all my prerequisites 16 credits during the Spring. The college does anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 in one semester. Which also means I will not be able to work, which means I cannot pay rent on a room. For those of you who are supporting yourself, how did you go about taking prerequisites courses? Which major did you pick? How did you obtain loans to pay for it and housing?
