2020 UPDATE. You guys gave a lot of feed back and I appreciate all of your constructive criticism good or bad. So I kept my job- paid my bills-took care of my kid- started my nursing residency without a hitch. Over the last couple years I've come to the realization that although allnurses can be healthy in connecting with other healthcare professionals it’s not something I want to hold as the holy grail! I’m fine you guys no weird repercussions. During my short tenure as a RN/tech I was never in a situation where I put a patients safety at risk or pt was crashing and absolutely no one was around and I myself had to act as a nurse but didn’t (Lmaooo- You guys came up with some creative scenarios) oh and here’s a lil tidbit I did my residency and just so happen to switch specialties and came back the company as a registered nurse no one said anything they welcomed me back with open arms. ONCOLOGY HERE I COME

First off all I come to a community of "nurses" who instead of giving helpful advice some spew words of discouragement or some type of unworthiness like I didn't work my butt off for the last four years, so if you have a problem you and her can kiss my sarc-ass-m. Maybe I did not type it correctly. My manager has not shown me ANY policy related to this matter. I even search myself and I couldn't find anything

As I mention before the BON specifically addresses this issue it states nurses can work as techs but he or she could be found liable as a RN if that said nurse did something wrong. I know my role as a CNA and I'm sure I'm not going to put any diapers on wrong to jeopardize my new shiny license. BTW did I mention I'm licensed in completely different state than the facility I'm working at. My manager has not shown me any policy but I have provided him with the literature from BON. But if he does miraculously come up with a policy does it trump board of nursing

For the past four years I have worked as a CNA putting myself through school and I can officially say I am a RN. However-a few months ago my manager told me that I had to tell him immeadiately after passing my boards because I could not work for my organization as a tech if I'm a license nurse. I checked with my state BON and it says I can but I'm still avoiding him because I need my job. My nurse residency doesnt start for another month (at another location) and I still have bills to pay. Whats worst is that my co workers have been asking me, so I have been honest and tell them that I passed my boards but some of them have gone out of their way to question how do I still have a job as a tech where as the organization usually let techs go once they become nurses who are not staying with the company. I also wanted to stay with the same organization to earn some extra money prn because I'm sure I will not be eliegible for overtime for months at the new Hospital. I'm so confused right now because it's like I have to hide the fact I'm a nurse to justify my needs for survival.

YIKESS!! Just took my NCLEX today, on a friday and now I'm going to have to wait and suffer the whole weekend pondering whether I passed or not.Not to mention that I live in a state that doesnt participate in quick results. I tried the PVT trick and I'm confused. There is youtube video saying if you get to the billing page you failed but another video says if you put all the billing info in card doesnt go through you passed. THE AGONY. The computer cut off at 75 questions, so I know either I did really good or really BAD! Also do any of you guys think the proctors at the testing center know if you passed? Mine's was giving me googly eyes and told me to "relax youre going to be fine."

SOOOOOOOO I have literally been driving myself crazy trying to "secure the bag" as a new grad by applying for several jobs. So far I have been offered two positions, but I'm not sure which one to accept. Although the first contender is located an hour and a half away from me, I'm attracted because it's a critical care RN position and offers several certifications during the course of the residency program. Whats weird is during my interview with the director of the unit she only asked me two questions and told me to reach for the stars.(LOL IF I DIDNT HAVE TOUGH SKIN I COULD HAVE CRIED) Two weeks later I got an email from them saying that they have selected another candidate blah blah, but within hours of that same email, I got a phone call saying oh that was a mistake "insert director name here" actually wants to hire you. The second contender is at a hospital closer to my home, thirty minutes to be exact. It is on a med/surg floor and the interview went 10 times better than ole "reach for the stars and follow your dreams" lady. I want to take the position as an ER nurse but the way I was offered the job seemed weird especially in conjunction with the way the interview went. What should I do ignore my gut or follow my heart and hope for the best?

About thirty minutes ago before my computer died, I promise you I wrote out the longest reply in reference to your statements about the difference between a nurse and tech in regards to respecting patients cultural and religious preferences. lmaooo But fortunately for you my computer did die so the world will never know how ignorant I think your comments are. I suggest you do a little research to find out how much education Certified nursing assistants receive about topics such as ethics, cultural, and religious preferences before you make a silly assumptions. No one is Holding a patient down with out their consent to give them a Brazilian wax - at least not me. For a incontinent patient I think it is a good idea to trim pubic hair so I can clean them properly instead of the hair holding a strong odor or a poop ball being lost amongst the madness. If I'm starting an iv I prefer not to stick someone aimlessly because thick corse hair on their arms. If the patient does not want me to do it I wont do it. Speaking of grammar Momandson, I think you should re-edit your post and correct nurse assistant to nursing assistant or nurse's assistant. Few things: -In the world of nursing I didn't know it was inappropriate to discuss body hair on patients -In my original post I stated I have being doing "nurse assistant" work for 10 years so what exact patient am I making a mockery of. -You call me juvenile, yet other members claim to french braid pubic hair?!?! -if you dont like the post what prevents you from moving to the next?

WOW! Sexual assault?!?!? Thats extreme. But lets say we took it that far, am I sexually assaulting a female patient when Im changing her diaper because I obviously have to wipe her lady parts? How about when I put a condom cath on (I hope I'm allowed to do that as CNA and all lol) That mean's I have to touch the patient's member, right? What about shaving a patient in general? I have shaven plenty of beards with and without permission just to make the the patient appear well kempt. For now on my patients will look like Santa claus before I ever pick up a razor lol

I'm not dictating, Im setting the record straight. There seems to be some type confusion on what I can and cannot do. For some reason a lot of users feel the need to post what happens at their own personal places of employment like that is the standard of practice EVERYWHERE. Then it turns into an argument, escualting to group of people deciding to sound ignorant and gang up on another member '_' Like thats going to change a persons job description, skills, or what their expected to do while on duty. OK PEEPS LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT NOW!!! I am a cna who works as pct at two hospitals on the east coast. I DO NOT WORK AT A LTCF.I DO NOT WORK AS A HOME HEALTH AIDE. So my job description may not fit the same as the aides that you work with. In my job description at MY JOB I am able to start iv's-flush them to ensure the work correctly not start a bag of fluids or hang meds. I am able to draw blood do ekg's etc. PLease back to the pubs thanks u guys rock!!!!

Yup you guess it, this post is all about pubic hair. I've been in the game for almost 10 years and I have no idea why CNA's or nurses ignore pubic hair or excessive hair in general! I had a nurse ask me to get an IV on a patient once who literally resembled Chewbacca. Fortunately I had success in his hand which is frowned upon at my institution but heck what else was I going to do? Oh but thats not the half.... What about when I have a patient whose on golytely or diarrhea??? The last thing I'm tryna do is fidget with 7 inch longs hair. I'm wondering if its OK to provide lil snip snip?

When I was preganant some of the burdern was taken off of me once I was further along me(Im talking waddle phase). Sometimes I did have to stand up for myself with patients receiving chemo or diagnosed with a form of infectious disease that would harm to the baby. But the person in question is fairly early in her ppregnancy. She isnt showing, so I'm wondering to what extent would her helping me with a patient cause any distress to her or the baby?

"Its in the water" I'm sure everybody has heard this phrase. For those who haven't it usually means in the workplace (for me the hospital) when one person gets pregnant it spreads like wild fire. This go around I have been spared the pregnancy bug, however my cohorts have not. Now here's the issue, although nurses are pregnant, patient acuity does not change. Patients still need to be bathe, fed, walk to the bathroom,or wound dressing change. Recently at work I was working with a nurse whose fairly early in her pregnancy who refuse to change the patient because the smell was too overwhelming.(Bad yeast under stomach folds) Later on that night she refuse to help transfer that same patient to MRI stretcher. (Patient was bariatric).Throughout the night I was wondering at what point is enough's ENOUGH??. How can we accommodate pregnancy woes. I haven't been pregnant in over seven years but when I was I wasn't spared my duties as a CNA. I still changed diapers. I still helped with stinky trach care, I still pulled and push heavy patients. I was expected to to do my job should I expect the nurse to do hers??

I am also in the same boat. And guess what, I'm taking Five classes with a 7 year old and two jobs.(one of them being part time the other prn) I think the most important thing is to have a good support system.You might have to kick your girlfriend to the curb with all that negative talk. Having someone to cheer you on, telling you " you can do it" makes a world of difference. Secondly don't spread yourself so thin you don't have ANY time for your kids. No you cannot make it to every foot ball game but what if you let the kids stay up a little late to discuss the game over ice cream!!! What ever you do DONT STOP YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

I sure did make a post about chamberlain.Which by the way is not an online school for bsn students. Now if you yourself would like to go back to obtain higher learning you might be eligible to take online classes. How else would you know they offer online classes unless your were to trying tooo........Scratch psychologist your research skills show you could have a promising career in journalism.So if your asking, no I never applied to chamberlain. I am and will continue working my ass off at my four year university to improve my gpa. If only I went to a community college such as yourself I could be done with school and patronize people on the internet! Yes thats the whole point of this thread springchick1. Im so glad you pointed that out to me. I have been a cna for eight years enrolled in a bsn program for two and I never realize the reason why I'm working my ass off to become a nurse is to be apart of a little organization. I say you go back to school and become a psychologist, because you have me all figure out!!!

I think I just read a thread where you stated you told the tele tech the reason the monitor was stating asystole is becasue you put a pillow over your patients head in efforts to try and be funny. I fear that you are putting words in my mouth. You keep stating personal. The only thing that I am taking personal is nurses who accuse me of lying. Not cool!!! From the beginning Ive stated I am not trying to attempt falsify myself as a nurse or do things that I havent been trained to do. Maybe you missed that by jumping to what could go wrong if I performed a task. I stated tasks that I am allowed to do at the two hospitals I work at to support my argument on whether cna's should be included in the realm of the WORD Nursing.You keep mentioning board of nursing. What do you mean how often I check vital signs and activitites such as turn q2 are place in orders so I dont understand that one? Something as simple as vitals may need RN intervention. Thats why all the tasks I perform are to be Supervised under a RN. When A new nurse steps on the floor how does she gained proficiency in a task???? She is taught by A RN the proper procedure the do's and donts the what if's and She practices it. "You are not licensed nor trained to act if things go wrong." I am having a similar debate in a post about cna's. It's hard being at entry level in the nursing world or medical world. I am a CNA/TECH at two hospitals and for the most part some nurses do feel ma's cna emts are incompetent. But as long as you know what you do and what you are trained to do keep going!!!!!
