Because my mother is the devil and if it's not her way she won't comply.

My mother scheduled my doctor appointment on Aug 26th which will be my second day of one of my lecture college classes (Anthropology). So now I am freaking out because I can't miss school and get bad grades, I have a lot riding on me to get good grades and apply to this nursing program in December. But now I don't know what to do because what if I miss something really important and it would be on a test? I can't get bad grades already. So I'm planning on reading the chapter twice, and then take notes and outline the whole chapter so I won't fall behind my other classmates. I have Orgo that same day but I definitely will be making that class because there will never be a option to miss that class, I don't care if I have to walk in a snow storm to get there. Sorry guys for my minin rant. I just don't know how to handle the situation because this will be my first year at college and no one understands that I can't miss a class or two like I did in HS.

The Commuter Okay... That makes perfect sense. But I have another question: Should I also pay for the lab course as well for 1 credit hour if my #1 school doesn't require it, but my #2 backup school does? Is it also possible for me to just take the lab next year if I don't get into the school I want?

One of my school's prequisite is Intro to Organic Chem 1, but there are no more avaible seats left. So should I just take Orangic Chem instead? Will this still be acceptable? Obviously, I could wait until Monday to ask my intended school but there are only 2 slots left in Organic Chem and I just rather not take that risk. :)

Nothings wrong with it persay. It'll just take more time to start the program because I need all the pre-reqs done for a BSN before I could apply to the program. And I've heard that at that particularly college, they don't have the best clinical sites because the school is in the middle of nowhere ( very rural setting). I also feel as though the ABSN + that college won't open up many doors as far as being ablr to find a job in the earliest way as possible. But the ABSN program Is my backup plan if the private university doesn't work out for me in the long run. And if the ABSN program doesn't work out for me then I will go for my LPN and just do the LPN-BSN route. :)

Couldn't I just use my settlement money for my first year in college then let my grandparents claim me? My mother has no obligations to claim me on her tax.

University of Evansville in Idiana, Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wyoming, Mount Union University in Ohio, Belmont University in Tennessee (way too expensive with up to 55,000 annual), Mount Mercy College in Iowa, St.Xavier University in Illinois, Lewis University in Illinois, University of Michigan, University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan, Coe College in Iowa. All of them are accredited national and regional with some 100% NCLEX pass rate and some 90%. All these colleges I have done research on in the past are private colleges and have good nursing programs with all direct entry BSN programs (I can name more but they are too far away with your standards). It will be real hard to find a direct entry program in a public university, you might have to look far and wide for that one. I suggest to find the cheapest college (or however much your willing to spend) in Michigan to get your degree though.

My grandparents are retired and when I spoke to my CC financial office they told me I could use my grandparents information if I lived with them for over 6 months. My mother claims me but she refuses to give me her SSN because she is always on edge and thinks everyone is out to get her. And that's why I'm moving in with my grandparents.

No, I never had a degree before. Lakeview College of Nursing in Illinois offer their students the choice of a ABSN or BSN whether you have a degree or not (with all the 2 year pre-reqs done of course). It seems to be a pretty cheap program. The private university I'm planning on going to is a direct entry BSN program for freshman. Meaning once you get out of high school you could apply to the program with no pre-reqs. And if you are a transfer student you can apply to the program with all 8 pre-reqs done or finish the last of your pre-reqs at the university itself. I hope that makes sense :)

Thank you for that. I would say that if I could get a scholarship for dorms then that would be awesome. I honestly don't think 27,000 is that expensive compared to the cheapest public university in my state which is 24,000. I also feel that this private will offer more and open many doors for me in the future. It is also the cheapest private university in my state and I think that is what drew me to it as well. And yes, the university offers a lot of scholarships, even for nursing.

I understand what you're saying. But it also was a misconception, I honestly thought 13:1 students to faculty meant "students to clinical instructors". Sadly, I won't be able to find out the true number for students to clinical instructors until Monday when she will be available. But thank everyone for clearing that up for me. I don't want to go around telling people that and looking stupid.

That's a good question. I will make a note of that to ask about later. Your right. What should be the desired answer when I ask a nursing advisor about this?

How so? That is what the nursing advisor told me when I went to their orientation last Tuesday. I'm even looking at the documents as I type this, and it says exactly that.

They admit 120 students into their program annually. I will be only going for 3 years not 4, and it wouldn't be a total of 27,000 because the school offer their own grant money and state grant, plus a decent amount of goverment student loans ( a max of 8,000). They also offer a lot of transfer student scholarships and that's why the school is so transfer friendly because everyone transfers there. I have done a lot of research on this school and spoken to a lot of people who knows about the program. The program is also nationally and state accredited.

The cheapest public school in my state is 24,000 a year not including books Or should I just wait another year to apply for an ABSN program for 13,000? Does having a 14 month ABSN make you less marketable when job hunting? Will that show on my degree?

The university I will be applying to at the end of the year for my BSN is a private Catholic university: *Is a direct entry nursing program. *Is transfer friendly—even with their nursing program is (I will be trying to transfer their next fall*). *Has a 100% NCLEX pass rate for 3 years straight and 100% of their students graduate. *Is a 13:1 student to teacher ratio. *Gives their students over 60 clinical sites to give their students diversity. *The program is Holistic focused. *Is a 3 year nursing program, so a lot is spread out. Now this all seems great but the total cost of attendance for this school is $38,000 annual with fees included. You could even registered up to 18 credit hours a semester at this school but pay nothing because it's also included with tuition. However, If I was to commute the 45 min there everyday I wouldn't have to pay for dorms so it would be about 27,000 annual. It is the cheapest nursing private program in my state, and a nurse who attended the school last year told me that the #1 hospital in my state always prefer interns from this school. My only concerns is the money factor. I will be doing my pre-reqs at a CC this semester and then apply at the end of the year. I'm hoping to cut the cost down with grant money, government loans, and scholarship.

I don't have anything that would really disqualify me from the military but me being anemic. I have very low iron and since I only eat what my mom buys I can't change my eating to healthier base foods with iron. Also I found out that my scholarships does cover the cost of my tuition buy I am no longer going there since the school cost 28,000 with room and board, books, etc.

Wait.. So a 16,000 LPN is not reasonable? This other LPN program is 20,000 for 18 months, do I thought the 16,000 was more affordable. But where should I look and how much should it cost? I'm looking into this CNA program as well and it's about $800.

Stick with Morraine Valley. Chamberlain is overly expensive even with finacial aid so you would be taking out a load of private loans for each semester. Plus, the Chamberlain in Tinley Park Is way too unorganized for you to be trying to invenst anything with them, they didn't even offer scholarships.

Sorry if I'm confusing everyone so I will just clear it all up: 1.) I do not literally "owe" the school, but I did receive an e-bill in the mail telling me that this money has yet to be paid. 2). This will be my first year as a freshman so I've never been to college before. 3). I have not been accepted into the nursing program yet, I just will be pre-nursing. And I thank everyone for their comments because you guys have really helped me. I'm looking into going the LPN route since it's only 16,000 a year and my scholarship money can be applied to that. I also receive my 10,000 settlement money in October since I was in a really bad car accident last year as a passenger. But I'm not sure what I will do with that yet, besides buying a car with it and becoming a CNA while in school.

Oh, thank you for that I didn't know that! And yes, my 8,000 one is an outside scholarship, so I hope that's the case.
