  1. Thank you so much!! I live very close to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, and I plan on trying to volunteer there sometime soon!! Everything you said was extremely helpful and I really appreciate it!
  2. Thanks! I know that many people find a different area that they end up loving. I'm not closing myself off to other areas, but based on multiple volunteer experiences, job shadowing, and clinical experiences, I'm VERY interested in peds.
  3. I would really like to get it on my forearm, but I've also considered the wrist because it's close to where I originally wanted it, but I feel like I could hide it easily enough (with a watch)....
  4. Thanks! I do realize that I'll have to cover it in nursing school.. I've already researched their policy. I don't really mind that, but I just don't want to have to cover it for the rest of my life.
  5. Awesome!!! Thank you!
  6. Okay, so I know for a fact that I want to be a nurse (likely pediatric.) I also know for a fact that I want to get a tattoo ( also please don't question this/tell me I shouldn't get one... Yes, I know that it's permanent. It is to honor my grandfather who passed away not too long ago, and I want it there forever.) I have been questioning where I should get it because I do not want it to impact my future career and/or the ability to get hired. I'm just curious what most hospital policies are for nurses and tattoos. Nurses with tattoos... Where are they/are they visible, and has this ever caused a problem?? (Also, my dream is to join the nurse residency program at Vanderbilt after I graduate from nursing school, so anyone with advice/ experience/knowledge regarding their policy on tattoos would be greatly appreciated!!) Basically, would a tattoo not covered by scrubs be a problem?? Thanks!!
  7. Hey y'all!! I'm going to college in August, and I know for a fact that I want to be a nurse. I am also positive that I want to work in some area of pediatric nursing. I'm pretty interested in oncology or some area of the PICU, but I know that there is a good chance that I could find another area of pediatrics that I love. So, I would love to hear from any pediatric nurses (any specialty/area)... What do you love about your job, what're the hardest parts of your job, what's a "normal" day like, how did you get into it, etc??? I just want to learn a little bit about what it is really like, as opposed to what formal job descriptions or online articles about pediatric nursing say it is. Thanks in advance!! :)
  8. Thank y'all so much! I really appreciate all of the insight everyone is giving! And Isabelk you sound like you really love both sides of your job! I love that! Adventure_RN that analogy was really helpful!! Thanks!
  9. Thank you dranger! Honestly I feel like a lot of what's online and a lot of people's ideas of NPs is that it's just a "higher level nurse" & that NPs are the same as nurses, just with more schooling. Or it's thought that NPs are nurses with a few added abilities. It makes it very difficult to get a clear answer without actually taking to some NPs! So thanks for all your input!
  10. Honestly I was just curious to learn more about it. I'm always interested in furthering education and going as far as I can in something. It's not that I WANT to be a NP, I've just been curious as to what exactly they do! I was simply wondering if it's something I'd want to do!
  11. Thanks! I'll look into that!
  12. Okay so I know this may sound ignorant or somewhat dumb, but I really am just trying to find out the answer to a question I've long held in my mind. I have asked multiple NPs that I know and Googled, and all of them are either nursing managers, teachers, instructors, or nursing researchers. Basically, they are all in positions where they do not do the general "nursing care" positions. They work along with doctors in the hospital, but they do not check vitals, give meds, etc. My question is this: After becoming a NP, can you continue work in a hospital floor setting? Do you still do the work of a nurse with additional advanced tasks/jobs? I am interested in one day pursing a further education as a NP, but I still want to have the career of caring for those in the hospital closely. Thanks!!
  13. Thanks for all of the info flyingscot!! That's all really good to know! And Brandiep I find that career super interesting! One of my best friends wants to be a paramedic. I've considered that too, but I really feel like I'm supposed to be in a position physically in the hospital setting! Good luck in nursing school!!!
  14. Thanks so much! That's a lot of good information:)
