I never said everyone with a BSN had their parents pay for it. If you have nothing positive to say, keep your opinions to yourself. I was looking for advice, not to get criticized. And by the way I do know there are people who have it worse than me so don't give me a pep talk about your life in comparison to mine.

A big concern of mine is how am I going to make ends meet working part time for $12 hr? How do people do it? I envy some people that go to school and their parents pay for it.. they have no idea how good they have it. I understand they are stressed out about schooling too, but to not have to worry about the financial part of it would be amazing!

Hello, this could get lengthy. I apologize in advance! I am 27 years old. I have been with my boyfriend for almost 6 years and he has a 7 year old son. I received me CNA in November of 2015. I did awesome, I only missed getting a perfect score for the entire class by 4 points! I worked at a CBRF for 8.5 years. I was making 11.72 an hr. and it just wasn't making ends meet. I looked in the paper for something else and there was an opening for a correctional officer. Starting pay was 19.37 and hr. so I applied. Needless to say I got the job. I have been there for about a month and a half and I absolutely hate it! My schedule is all over the place and the people are so negative. They are saying I will have to wait probably at least 10 years to get on days, and I don't have any kids yet, so I don't want to be working pm's and noc shifts forever. And its not even a set schedule. It could be 3-11 11-7 or 6pm to 2am, it just depends. I work 6 on 2 off 6 on 3 off. I just recently found a nursing school that I can acquire my ADN part time. Now I feel that I have made a huge mistake in taking my new job. It is not flexible at all, and I'm afraid if I go part time to go to school they will let me go because its not job related. I am also very worried that I wont be able to afford to go to school. I am so confused at this point I am driving myself crazy. I'm also afraid that if I do go, I wont make it. I was not the best high school student there ever was. I did enough to get by. I could go back to my old job, work part time and also attend school part time. My old job was very flexible!! PLEASE, any input would help me tremendously!

They make a great deal more than I do, I make less than 13 dollars an hour. For Wisconsin the lower pay scale starts at about 44,000 a year. Sorry for asking about OTA, I didn't know if anyone knew one or worked with one. I will try to find another website.

I have heard that nursing school is very hard, would OTA be as hard? I know they are two completely different fields, but I was just curious.

Thanks thats what i thought. Do you know what the job out look looks like for OTA? I don't want to go to school for something I can't get a job in.

Are you saying that OTA require a masters? Because I have read, occupational therapy assistant can be an associates degree.

meanmaryjean- I work at a CBRF and we do not hire LPNs. From what I have heard, LPNs will eventually be faded out because they are not really needed. If you have a nurse and a CNA they can do the job of the LPN. But I did consider that. OrganizedChaos- My Boyfriend has a daughter here that we get 50/50. So we cant move to far away. He also works on the family farm, and that's his passion. Dishes- Do you think that OTA will eventually not be needed, or will more schooling be required? I kind of want to choose a career that I wont have to continually go to school for it, I understand there is always things to lean in your career, but I mean like have to go back for a bachelors or masters degree because you cant get hired if you don't.

This is my first post, so here it goes! I have been looking on this site for awhile now, and decided to join. It seems that so many people are helpful on here! Im 26 years old, and I have been working as a CNA for 7.5 years. I work with Alzheimer's patients and I love my job, but I cant live off of 11.52 an hour. I have a serious boyfriend and we have been together for 5 years. I want to have children soon, but we have to be more financially stable. I wanted to be a nurse, but I don't want to have children while Im in school, and I would have to get my BSN to have a job in my area. I want to get a degree in something less stressful as well, I was thinking maybe OTA, speech pathology, etc. I have been researching careers in the medical field, but Im sure there are a lot that I have no idea about. If anyone is a OTA I would love to know about the schooling, if you like your job, career outlook etc. I have tons of thoughts running through my head right now so Im sure I will post more questions. I know its my fault for not going to nursing school right out of high school, because now I feel so stuck. I would like 2 children by the time Im 30 (hopefully) and if I peruse BSN I wont have children for a while.
