  1. thank you so much! I think it was a rough night and I'm just gonna keep trying to be more organized and manage better. Last night went better and hoping for a better night tonight! I just hope it does eventually improve, yano?
  2. So I am a new nurse on a telemetry unit. Our unit is small, can only hold up to 18 patients. That said, my boss hired new nurses for night shift since only 2 senior nurses wanted to take a position on this floor... Usually it is 3 RN's and 1 aide on night shift. Sometimes we have a charge nurse. anyways...long story short, most nights it was me and 2 other nurses caring for a unit of patients. 5 a piece or 6. Well, over time me and those 2 other nurses didn't get as good training as the other new grads who got scheduled with the 2 senior nurses. Fast forward to the other night... The nurse who has 11 years experience was working as well as me and another nurse who haven't been there a year yet. My section of patients had: 3 incontinent people (which we have to help our 1 aide change ), an NG tube, a Foley irrigation, a colostomy, a Cardizem gtt, and a CHF pt. The lady with the Cardizem gtt lost IV access and wad due for a blood transfusion. The guy with the Foley needed to be irrigated. And I didn't know how. All night I managed and it was ROUGH. I asked for help with the senior nurse and all she did was grab the blood for me. Didn't help pass meds. Didnt help even after she was done with everything. My boss came in and I was late giving report since I was so behind...and yelled at me because I was doing what the day shift nurse wanted me to do instead of giving her report right away (which I tried to do). Now that day shift nurse is saying I didn't do ANYTHING that night. I kinda want to quit nursing altogether. I haven't even been employed a year and I'm so DONE. I just don't know what to do. Me and another coworker wanted to take our own life after work that day...and have looked at other careers. I've been so depressed and haven't eaten and have just slept. I don't know what to do :/ help...
  3. Okay! I will have to update my cover letter and resume. A girl i know works there and said she'd look out for me but her floor is one below the one that's got the 6 positions. I think I'm just going to wait it out and take my boards and see what comes up, 'yano? Thanks for your input!!
  4. Thanks again! I am excited for the future! Just gotta take and pass the boards!
  5. This has been the most helpful response so far so I thank you. I am enrolled in fall for BSN i just graduated ADN. I think I will just be patient. Thank you!!
  6. Thank you for this input! I am going to just wait the two weeks and if I hear nothing maybe I will reapply or email the recruiter or something. This helps to talk it out with other nurses!
  7. Okay. Thank you so much! I felt confident until I scored 56% on the question trainers on Kaplan... X(
  8. Thank you! My only worry is that if I take this position in sub acute then get a call about a different job, won't that look bad if I quit sub acute after like a month or two? Or is that okay to do if something else comes up? Also, I would like full time if possible and am talking my nclex on the 25th so maybe I should wait till i take that to start working?
  9. So I applied for a Graduate Nurse position during, and after nursing school. I graduated on May 16th. Since then I applied to a LOT of places. I have recently gotten a job offer for a subacute/rehab unit at a long term facility doing part time nights 11-7. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying anything bad about this job, it's just... There's this hospital near me. I had seen them posting for Graduate Nurses, and apparently they love graduates from my nursing school. I applied online early May and went to HR to ask about my application, but the lady in HR was not very pleasant and hastily reminded me that it's their policy not to tell me the status of my application. Since then, I hadn't heard from them. On Monday, I went there and noticed they had 6 positions for nights, with about 4 of them being FULL TIME NIGHTS! That is my dream, to work full time nights on a Med-Surg unit. I went to HR that day and they had me resubmit an application. I didn't have my resume and reference page in hand, so I just gave the resume. That same lady in HR hastily took it, and again reminded me it is not their policy to tell me the status of my application. I still have not heard from them, and really don't know what I can or should do to facilitate my hire? I worked at their long term care facility nextdoor as a CNA on subacute/rehab and was thinking it would make me more appealing as a candidate. Some people are saying to try to talk to the Nurse Manager of that unit, some are saying leave her alone, that I'll bug her... What is your opinion on this? And should I take this job offer that I have and not pass it up? Or should I wait 'till I pass the boards and try then? SO confused...
  10. So I graduated nursing school on May 16th. I attended the Kaplan review class the week after, and learned about the decision tree, and all sorts of other strategies and whatnots... However, I haven't really looked at it much since then, until a few days ago when I got my ATT and scheduled my NCLEX for June 25. Everyone said the earlier the better, so that's why I went with June 25. My question is...how should I effectively study in this short time? I am getting stressed because it is in 2 weeks! But people say my program prepares us well for the NCLEX because we have a 97% pass rate (somewhere around there)...Not that I want to rely on that, but it does make me feel better. I have been doing the Kaplan Question Trainers. I got 4 and 5 done and am going to do 6 and 7. I also have an NCLEX book called "Illustrated Study Guide for the NCLEX-RN EXAM" by JoAnn Zerwekh... Should I just keep doing Kaplan questions on the Question Trainer and read the book? Or should I be trying to make flash cards for important concepts/values, etc... I guess what I'm asking is...how can I effectively study within these 2 weeks without getting so anxious and stressed and overwhelmed that nothing retains? Because I feel so overwhelmed right now, but am trying not to be... Thanks in advance!
