  1. Hi. I took 2 core classes at a time. I'm taking each specialty course by itself until the start of practicum ( anticipated start for practicum is dec 2015) due to the amount of material contained in these courses. I also still work a full time schedule. I began my FNP program in fall 2013 and took a session leave of absence last dec so I could enjoy the holiday season with my family. It's definitely a rigorous program but I feel like I've made definite progress toward my goal. Feel free to ask me any questions you may think of. :)
  2. Hi, I am in the FNP program at Walden. I just finished my first specialty class of adv pathophysiology and will begin adv pharm in June. At the beginning of the program I took 2 courses at a time. With the specialty, there's a load of info the student is responsible for in a short period of time so I choose to take each course by itself until I am ready to begin the practicum. You will have a discussion question that you are required to answer and provide at least 2-3 responses to your classmates, you will have a minimum of 4 papers (usually due the even weeks of class). Once you begin the specialty coursework in addition to what is required in the core courses there will be a final assignment in week 10 (that is more comprehensive) and a quiz each week. The minimum requirements for a B or better will be increased. I will tell you that there is a lot of reading. You must stay motivated to complete what is required by each instructor. If you have any additional questions feel free to ask.
  3. Hello, I am also in Walden's FNP program. I just finished advanced patho and will be starting adv pharm in June. Any advice you can give regarding adv pharm? Did you feel as if you retained as much info as necessary after taking adv patho to assist you in getting through adv pharm? At this point I feel overwhelmed at the amount of info and want to make sure I'm prepared for the practicum. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :)
  4. I have just finished taking advanced pathophysiology in Walden's FNP program with 2 courses to go prior to beginning my practicum portion. Beginning the program I took 2 core classes at a time, and continuing to work FT this was overwhelming at times. Now that I am in my specialty course work I am taking these by themselves. This stretches out the program time for me but I'd like to pass and retain as much content as possible. The coursework in general is challenging. You are expected to do more than the minimum to get a good grade. As far as papers, usually there is at least 4 papers required for each course, discussion questions to answer and respond to peers 3-4 days per week, along with many chapters per week that you are required to read. Once you get to your specialty courses, you are required to generally read more, find your own resources for research papers (still 4-5 assignments per course), theres an average of 4-9 chapters (some weeks there's more or less) to read per week, there is one discussion question that requires an original post plus responses to classmates 3 different days per week, and a required quiz due by Sunday (quizzes are every week even when there is an assignment due). If I remember correctly, in the beginning of the program in one or two classes we were put into a designated group of 4-5 students and had to do a group study guide but other than that group work is not required. This program is not for those that do not want to work. In most MSN programs, as in this one, the student must obtain a B or better to pass each course. If anyone has any more specific questions, I will be happy to answer as best as I can. Good luck all. :)
  5. Hello, I am about to begin my adv pharm class in Walden's Family NP program. After finishing adv path, did you feel overwhelmed due to the content? Am am just hoping and praying I make it to practicum because even getting an A in the course I do not know if I am prepared as other nurses starting their practicum or if this is a normal feeling. Any advice is appreciated
