  1. I do realize that there are pre-nursing degrees offered from this college. However, the Portage Learning is a non-degree seeking program they offer for fulfilling nursing prereqs. Prices for the courses included online tutoring and all study materials, books too. It is pretty comparable to a course offered at the local community colleges plus the books aren't included in the tuition rates. And because I am not looking into getting the pre-nursing degree from Geneva College, I have not looked into the Roberts Wesleyen/New York issue. I am not taking that route. Just fulfilling some prereqs that so far I have received the OK that they will transfer. I already understand the woes of financial aid and caps on bachelors degrees sadly.
  2. There is not any specific reason as to why I can't do them on campus at CCP. I currently work Mon-Fri 9-5 and the convenience of the self-paced online course really attracts me. I like to be on my own time. Plus the price is not all that bad IMO. I have met with an advisor at Gwynedd Mercy's ABSN program and I know for sure they accept Portage Online classes including the sciences with labs. That is actually how I found out about the program. I finally heard back from **** with the Drexel ACE program. She advised that they generally will accept prereqs with the online structure, sciences too as long as the program is Regionally Accredited--which Portage is. The frustrating part about this reply is I didn't get a clear answer about the lab portion. I wish there was a clear cut answer about labs. I know some community colleges offer hybrid courses-lecture online and lab in person. But this particular program I had in mind is an online lab. I was pretty clear in my email. Are you in a nursing program in Philly?
  3. I'm considering applying to this program but not for another year!! Can any of you share where you took your prerequisite courses?? did anyone take online labs that were accepted by the ACE program?
  4. Considering pursuing an accelerated path towards a second career nurse & am interested in hearing input of others. I live in the Philly area so naturally I have been looking at programs closer by-Drexel ACE, West Chester Advance 2 BSN, Gwynedd Mercy ABSN… Having my BBA in Marketing & MIS I have to take a nice chunk of prereq courses before I even apply. I found an online option – Portage Learning through Geneva College (a regionally accredited school via Middle States). Convenient & cheap while I continue to work full time until the day comes I start a nursing program. The catch is that the science courses also have online labs. Has anyone used Portage Learning? Does anyone have any advice on whether or not online labs should be an issue with applying to these programs? Has anyone applied to these programs have advice for a nursing student hopeful? Please help!! Thank you!
  5. Hello all, Considering pursuing a path towards a second career nurse & am interested in hearing input of others. I have a BBA in Marketing and MIS. My 9-5 3PL logistics job is crushing my soul. Sitting in my gray office, pushing emails all day every day is rather draining and dull. I am a great student, love to learn, and am seeking a more interactive/collaborative career. Looking towards nursing because I love people & I love helping people. The flexibility doesn't hurt either. I've been looking into Gwynedd Mercy's ABSN program in Philadelphia and have spoken to a counselor about what steps need to be taken before I apply. I will have to take all of the pre-reqs minus Chem I. I was pleasantly presented with the online option of Portage Learning-I am most drawn to the convenience. Huge plus for KK. Covering the costs of all these classes will be a hurdle for sure but I can make it work. My biggest concern is cost. If that weren't an issue I'd take all my pre-reqs through Portage and start ASAP. All ABSN programs seem to be cost a pretty penny. I used up a significant amount of student loans for my BBA, about 40K. I am concerned this will be an issue because I am aware that there is a cap for Bachelor's degrees whether it be your first, second, third, etc. I also found an interesting loan option via PNC--have yet to discuss this with PNC. They offer loans geared towards students seeking accelerated degrees in health professions—perfect, right? Anyone on here use this option? I also live on my own in the city. The only kind of support that I won't have through this would be financial. So I will have to work somewhere to keep up with bills. Just looking for insight on any topic I've rambled about above… Second Career nursing, Portage Learning, Gwynedd Mercy ABSN, money, working through nursing school. Thanks.
