I am a senior at the University of Iowa and I have been having a good last few semesters (all As and Bs) and I am finishing up my last semester as a senior right now and did not do so well. I got a C in Microbiology and a B in my healthcare finance and am at an A- in my chemistry class but still have to take the final and do well to keep the A. I had also gotten a C in my nutrition and health class last semester which also does not look good. tl;dr my senior year was not as good as a I had planned. Back in April, I applied for the Iowa Nursing School and am finishing my last few prerequisites for nursing. I think I had a very strong essay (talked about my experiences at volunteering at the hospital and my job that has nursing qualities to it). Currently, my OVERALL GPA is at a 3.02 and is threatening falling below 3.0. If I were to keep my GPA at exactly a 3.0 or if I have a 2.99 as an overall, do I still have a chance at nursing school? My PREREQUISITE GPA is currently at a 3.38, which could still be better. Will they likely care more about this GPA than my overall (which also involved classes I had to take for a previous major that I didn't do well in) Looking at my entire transcript, I started out weak freshman year and improved sophomore year onward. It's just this last year has been hard. My anxiety and depression has been worsening because of school stress and I think it has been affecting my studies. Iowa allows you to have 2 science prerequisites incomplete when applying, is it possible for me to retake my nutrition and microbiology course this summer? That is, should I ask the College of Nursing if I can do this, or might it affect the way they see me in my application? Sorry the questions are all over the place. Answer whatever you can! Any ex- or current UI nursing students would be awesome!
