  1. Thank you so much for your reply. It means a lot to me!!!!
  2. Hello, I am hoping I can get some advice and support from this group. I am starting nursing school in January and have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and adhd. My meds are working great and I have been in Healthcare for a very long time with no problems at all, even before I was diagnosed. The TXBON is wanting me to sign up for TPAPN 45 days after I get my license. All I have read about is horror stories but those were from people that had dwi's or drug addiction. Has anyone on here been through tpapn for mental illness and if so what did you have to do? My letter says successful completion of the program will require at least 1 year, so it's better than the 3 to 5 years that they recommend. Any help would be appreciated.
  3. I got a letter from the TBON that after I get my license I have to enroll in tpapn for a mental illness. It says successful completion of the program will require at least 1 year. So I am assuming I only have to be in it a year and I am done. Any advice for TPAPN for mental illness and what do the meetings consist of?
  4. I haven't received the letter yet. Hopefully I'll get it soon. Thanks!!
  5. I know, before I could even turn in my application for nursing school they required me to go through the BON first. I hope I can work after I graduate. I'm doing everything I supposed to.
  6. From what friends have told me, it is where you might not be able to give narcotics or have to take random drug testing or join tpapn for a probationary period
  7. I had to fill out a declaratory order for bipolar depression, the board of nursing finally approved me to go to nursing school but I will have a conditional license. I am not sure what the stipulations are as I am waiting on the paperwork. Am I going to have a hard time finding a job after I graduate because of this situation? There is absolutely nothing on my background at all. The only thing I have is the bipolar. I understand they are there to keep patients safe, but I have never heard of anyone with a mental illness have to have a conditional license.
  8. TPAPN* not train. I just talked to a psychiatrist that specializes in adults and I am getting a second opinion because the psychiatrist I see now is a child psych. Long story. So I might not even be bipolar at all which I don't think I am. I really think I'm just depressed. Hoping for the best. Then I won't have to go through all the extra stuff.
  9. Thank you so much for your response. All I have ever wanted to be was a nurse and if I have to go through TRAIN that is fine. I feel like my life is nursing!
  10. I am applying for nursing school in Texas. If my doctor sends a letter to the Texas board of nursing saying I am stable and my work performance isn't affected by my disability from being bipolar, will the BON give me clearance or do they not allow anyone with mental illnesses to get licensed??
  11. Thanks guys! I appreciate your feedback. I filled out the documentation form and will have my Doctor write a letter to them.
  12. I have to fill out a criminal history form for nursing school, one of the questions is about mental illness. Can the texas board of nursing find out about your mental illness if you put no. I will have to fill out a declaratory paper and have my doctor write a letter of approval saying I am okay to become a nurse. I thought that stuff was private.
