  1. Hello, all. I recently started looking into the field of global health. I've been searching for my niche in the healthcare industry, and I believe I've finally found it. My plan is to finish my two years in the nurse residency program at Vanderbilt, complete two years in the Peace Corps, and enter grad school for an MPH in global health/humanitarianism/epidemiology. My ultimate goal is to find employment with the World Health Organization. Currently, I volunteer for a local organization mentoring first generation college students, work as a RN on the Burn Unit at a celebrated MC, and am in the process of perfecting my French. My questions are threefold: 1. How should I narrow down my interests in global health to determine what aspect to focus on? I love the thought of doing disaster relief, but I also have a passion for analyzing patterns of and eradicating disease. 2. Which graduate schools (worldwide, not just U.S.) should I explore, and what should I do in preparation? I'm having particular trouble finding international MPH programs. My short list for the U.S. is Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Boston College. I'd love to hear about some not-so-ivy-league schools as well. 3. What kind of experience does the WHO look for in employees, and what types of positions could I qualify for? I have an informational interview set up with a professor in global health and will be attending a conference at Yale in April. Any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  2. Right, I got the call for the second interview. They finished the interviews Wednesday. Now I'm just waiting to hear back about how it went. I should have specified more.
  3. I'm from Missouri and I got a second call. Maybe it's just that there aren't many who apply from outside of Oregon. I felt like they were impressed by my move.
  4. I've not heard a thing :-/ Sorry. I'm still waiting back to hear about my second interview for good sam. Has anyone heard yet about the ICU?
  5. I'm sure you did great! I had practicum in the ICU, but I don't know if that was enough. I'll find out tomorrow! Do you feel good about it?
  6. Good luck tomorrow, jthom1977! Let us know how it goes.
  7. They said the questions would be more clinically based for this round. Let us know how it goes!
  8. I just got a call from the Good Sam ICU. They'll be interviewing 8 people on 6/3 or 6/10 for 2 night shift positions. Hopefully more of you will be getting calls!
  9. I hope no one is pulling their hair out yet! I know I'm getting close; the waiting game is unbearable! Has anyone started hearing back about second interviews yet?
  10. I have no idea. This is my first time going through the process, so I don't have any experience. They did say in the emails that there would be some situational questions. I think they want to figure out who we are as people and how we deal with work-related dilemmas
  11. To me, that sounds like a good thing. Do you think getting the first interview means more now? What differences do you see? congrats on getting through again! I hope everything works out this time.
  12. That's great! What have you heard of the process? From the past forums it sounds like it's really tough to get in, but I know they revamped the application process this year
  13. Hi! I wanted to start a forum post about the Residency program for Legacy Hospitals in the PNW. Has anyone else heard back about their interviews?
